The International Box Office Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

LOL. As much as I love America, that's a stupid thing to say. If that were the case, most people would hate America right now over Bush as he was the global laughing stock for almost a decade.

l

The Supreme Court of Italy... Supreme Court... overturned Knox's acquital last month because they felt the appellate court "didn't adequately explore the demonic sex game gone wrong" theory...

As if the past five years didn't make their legal system look like a big enough joke, now that comes from the supreme court of the entire country. It would be hysterical if a young guy and girl's livelihoods weren't hanging in the balance.

Of course America isn't perfect and I'm not really condemning all of Italy, but their court system and general public supporting the witch hunt (when they already have the killer whose blood and semen was found all over the victim, plus their terrible prolonged recession and support of TH3) really makes them look bad right now.

I actually agree with you about Knox's trial. I think they're being complete idiots and it's way more than a witch-hunt. The way they treated her was despicable, and the media sensationalized it in an appalling way.

Its worth noting if it hasn't been before that when you look at Italy BO for a weekend the weekend figures (for a while now) are 4 days (Thu-Sun) not the original 3 days (Fri-Sun) . So even though BOM and other may  indicate a 3 day weekend  the figures are 4 days.

Btw this is not a movie deserves to pass 1 billion! Only movies like Toy Story deserves that spot!!

Deserving box office is very different to grossing box office. There are so many examples...

Despicable Me 2 sold 45000 tickets on the first 4 days here. In comparasion, Epic sold 35000, Monsters sold 56000 and The Croods sold 63000. Safe to say that DM2 won't come close to the 300000 total of tickets sold of the first movie.

Toy Story 3 doesn't deserve it.

Wow asian markets are really dominating.  The list would have looked very different 3 years ago.

The Wolverine:

#1 among all films (1 territory):

Nigeria 0.41m
Afria-Middle East (1)

In short summary, the similar trend continues: action blockbusters (IM3) play the best in Asia-Pacific and Scandinavia, family movies (TS2/DM2/MU) dominate Europe and Latin-America and Japan (where the population is aging as Europe), Afria-Middle East is mixed.

In total, so far Hollywood movies have won 40 #1 of 2013 in different territories/markets across the world. About 40% of all markets available.

One and half month left for 2013, neither Thor/CF and Frozen look will win any single territory. So the only hopeful remains is Hobbit 2.

Can Hobbit 2 knocks IM3 off to claim the most market yearly champions ?
