filmlover
13 hours ago, moviesRus said: Jesus, those are some terrible winners in Best Actor. I think Supporting Actor has the "weakest" crop of winners, if only because I definitely wouldn't have given Rylance or Waltz Oscars for those performances. Best Actress has the best crop of winners IMO, because I really loved all of those performances (except Streep, whose performance in The Iron Lady is one of the few of hers that I haven't seen). moviesRus
Best Actor 1. Daniel Day-Lewis - Lincoln / Casey Affleck - Manchester by the Sea 2. Colin Firth - The King's Speech The rest aren't even worth ranking. Best Actress 1. Cate Blanchett - Blue Jasmine 2. Julianne Moore - Still Alice 3. Natalie Portman - Black Swan 4. Jennifer Lawrence - Silver Linings Playbook 5. Brie Larson - Room 6. Emma Stone - La La Land 7. Meryl Streep - The Iron Lady Best Supporting Actor 1. Mahershala Ali - Moonlight 2. J.K. SLAM!
I really haven't seen that much, but I'll rank as much as I can. Before people say "Where's Natalie Portman, where Casey Affleck, where's blah, where's blah", I need to say that performances I haven't seen aren't even in the list at all. Best Actor 1. Eddie Redmayne - The Theory of Everything 2. Colin Forth - The King's Speech 3. Leonardo DiCaprio - The Revenant 4. Jean DuJardin - The Artist Best Actress 1. Julianne Moore - Still Alice 2. Brie Larson - Room 3. Jennifer Lawrence - Silver Linings Playbook 4. Asian Smurf - La La Land Best Supporting Actor Simmons is the only one I've seen. Nonetheless, he is phenomenal. Best Supporting Actress 1. Patricia Arquette - Boyhood 2. Lupita N'Yongo - 12 Years a Slave 3. Anne Hathaway - Les Miserables 4. Octavia Spencer - The Help And just because a performance is at the bottom of the list doesn't mean it's not a good performance. I liked all of these. Jake Gittes
1. DDL 2. Dujardin 3. McConaughey 4. Firth 5. Di Caprio 1. Blanchett 2. Portman 3. Stone 4. Larson 5. Lawrence 1. Bale 2. Rylance 3. Waltz 4. Simmons 5. Plummer 6. Ali 7. Leto 1. Arquette 2. Davis 3. Lupita 4. Vikander 5. Leo 6. Hathaway Supporting Actor has by far the strongest recent track record (and that's not even counting 2007-2009 when they were awarding one all-time great performance after another). All except Leto are really solid and 4 or 5 out of seven are excellent. Actress and Supporting Actress are fine overall but have their share of clunkers. Actor is a clusterfuck except for DDL (and almost certainly Affleck but I still haven't seen MBTS).
