The numbers for Life are giving me Blair Witch vibes. But I have to give it credit for not ending up under $1 million on its first Monday.

For a minute there, I thought you were talking about the original Blair Witch.

Disney has been fudging the ever-loving bejeezus out of Rogue One the past couple weeks. They want TDK and they want it bad.

LOL what are you talking about?! It has been in discount theaters that are packed because that's how a second run works. It's a big deal to people who wait for these movies to come to cheaper theaters. I went to a 9:15 last night that was very busy. Companies don't just make up numbers to suit them.

Sorry, should've been more clear. When I said "fudging" I was referring to how much of a push they've been giving it in discount theaters, dollar theaters etc. Theyre putting a lot of work into the second run.

Kong is now ahead of Godzilla in the dailies.

If it follows Godzilla's multiplier from here out it will end with $154-155M.

Kong has out-grossed Godzilla in 6 of the past 7 days. If anything, this shows that $160M is the absolute minimum this movie will make (Kong is now at 135, while Godzilla was at 175) Almost surely a bit higher, say $165M.

Interesting to note that BatB's second Monday is just a tad bit bigger than the Jungle Book's first Monday...

Welcome to the boards! It took a while between your registration and your first post haha!

For this newbie is PR number 2.78M considered good, bad,or indifferent for a Monday?

I'm not a big expert but that drop seems fine to me.

PR's first Monday drop was better than Jack the Giant Slayer's but worse than Allegiant's. Using those two films as performance guides for the next week, it will end up with a second weekend of $14.7M (going by JtGS) or $14.2M (going by Allegiant).

Then I would have said The Blair Witch Project. Much longer title. And arguably a better movie.

I've been waiting for a 600-1200+ theater expansion like some of the big blockbusters get late in their run, but it hasn't happened.

Jurassic World went up almost 1000 theaters in weeks 12-13

Aug 28–30 9 $3,010,770 +218% 1,239 +665 $2,430 $642,978,555 12
Sep 4–6 13 $2,694,265 -10.5% 1,571 +332 $1,715 $646,737,905 13

Avengers almost 1600 in week 18!

Aug 31–Sep 2 13 $1,910,701 +1,557% 1,705 +1,582 $1,121 $619,760,594   18

Dory 1700 in week 12.

Sep 2–4 17 $2,055,852 +225% 2,075 +1,730 $991 $481,976,921

  12

I'm curious how some movies manage to do this while others go out in a slow burn.

Well, a common theme among those 3 films is that they all got major expansions around Labor Day weekend. Likely due to the barrenness of the market at that time. As we've seen this month, the market is booming right now, so I wouldn't expect anything like that for Rogue One.
