May 13-15 Weekend Thread | 67.4% drop for Doctor Strange 2
CloneWars replied to BadOlCatSylvester's topic in Numbers and Data
So, Star Wars does a lot better on streaming than in theaters and Marvel does good, but not amazing on streaming. I have a feeling that the Obi-Wan series is going to blow the streaming numbers out of the water. -
Finally someone in agreement. That one scene was brutal Not saying the scene. If you saw the movie, you should know what I'm talking about.. Anyway, this movie is for sure an edgier Marvel movie and does push the blood/gore factor. Parents take four and five year olds to see Marvel movies. They expect some violence, but there is also a hard line. New branding might work for certain projects. Moon Knight seemed a very hard TV-14 to me.

I think the mixed reception comes down to Wanda. Some felt she took a shift to the dark side too fast. I felt the explanation that the dark hold corrupted her worked for me. But, I do think if there was a scene before the title card where we see the book corrupting her, that one little addition would have made a world of difference in terms of reception.

Let's not forget CW made just slightly above $400M. Even if MoM does that kind of money, it's still good. Was I expecting better, yes. But, the cameos are a small part of the film. And, this is really a Doctor Strange/Wanda flick. CW was Avengers 2.5 I don't think there is a truly good comparison point for MoM. Maybe IM3 is the best comparison since that had an Avengers bump. This obviously had a IW,EG,NWH bump, so to go from the $230s to likely $400s seems decent to me. The reception is slightly troubling, but Marvel tends to get back on its feet. With Thor 4 right around the corner, everything seems fine.

Mr. Fantastic got a big reaction from my audience. None of the other cameos did. I think Professor X. would have gotten a reaction if he wasn't in the trailer. Also, I really liked that they used the 90's animated theme here. So, is this the same Professor X. as the animated series, and also lol at this being the third time he's died in some sort of Marvel movie.

Isn't the window a case by case basis and can be extended if a film does really well?

Ehh, Avatar was a monster when it came out. I was one of the few who thought $2B was possible before it came out. However, I think things have changed since then. I'm thinking $400M DOM, $500M if the movie is really good. OS I see it exploding. If it gets a China release, this will likely break the record for highest grossing movie WW. However, on the Domestic front, I don't think it's going to connect with US audiences the same way the first one did.

I do think there will be an increase and $300M could very well be possible, but I don't think any of these are good comparisions. Iron Man 3 had an increase because it was the fist MCU movie after Avengers which helped its BO a lot. CW was literally Avengers 2.5 Thor Ragnarok might be the closest comparison but it had a very fresh vibe to it and the Hulk. If Ant-Man 3 looks a lot like the previous 2 that could affect BO. NWH was the culmination of 20 years worth of Spider-Man films and the return of Tobey and the first proper Multiverse film.

I don't think the old cast is really much of a selling point. The dinos have always been the selling point. The reason why JW did so well is it was the first time in over a decade we got a Jurassic movie. I do think this will increase over FK, just not to the degree many on here believe. With that said, either Thor or DS2 will likely win the summer.

The Disney Thread | Iger will be with us until 2026
CloneWars replied to A Marvel Fanboy's topic in Box Office Discussion
Ehh, people acting like Disney is getting hurt by this or it was a mistake to speak out. I don't think either statement is true. First off this is 1st Amendment retaliation by DeSantis so that alone should invalidate the bill. Plus, there's other legal challenges besides the obvious 1A protections. Disney will maybe pay some legal fees, but that's about it. I also say maybe to legal fees because they most likely already have lawyers on their payroll.
