  1. That's not necessarily how explosions work filmlover. Even if everyone inside the Capitol building blew up, there would be injured people around the Capitol building due to the fragments and stuff. Even so, normal bombs generally don't have a 100% fatality rate. I think he did try to acknowledge it when he talked to Lois Lane after. So now a show lasts 10 seasons without people liking Tom Welling as Clark Kent? Come on Goffe, obviously people liked Tom Welling as a young Clark Kent. And yes they did sing high praises about him when the show first came out. Eventually the criticism about the show was the tired and repetitive love stories and the villain of the week stories. But people did think Supes/Clark was a highlight in both shows. Yeah, they have aged well. People don't need to bring them up when discussing best superhero films-just because you age well doesn't mean you are among the best.
  2. I kinda want to see God's Not Dead 2 when it comes to Netflix. The trailer shows it's one of the funniest comedies of the year. Way funnier than the Meet the Blacks comedy that's coming out.
  3. Also how is he the sole survivor? Sorry, not important. It's just you'd expect a lot of injured people he could have been helping but that would have made him an even bigger dick if he just flew off. In a live-action movie? Superman II. In live-action television? Smallville which lasted 10 seasons. Before that Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman also did pretty well (four seasons). I disagree that the classic Superman can't play well to modern audiences. The first two Donner Superman films after all have aged pretty well. It's just that there hasn't been a universally acclaimed Superman film in a long while.
  4. Except the review isn't misleading or inaccurate. It just has opinions that you don't like and anybody reading your posts can tell immediately. The point is that his reviews weren't objective. They were subjective. And you admitted that in that post: he applied his own viewpoint to each film. So has rukaio. We're done here.

  7. Because your admonishing might discourage others from posting their reviews. They might see your posts and get discouraged from contributing to the forums or using the blog feature. You are free to lodge criticism at the criticism itself but not at the critic. It's that simple.
  8. A film review is not a criminal science investigation, a food review, or even a car review. Film is a creative endeavor, many people consider it to be art. I'm sorry to burst your bubble but if a critic only tells me that a movie has competent direction then that review tells me one thing: the movie is a shallow experience that didn't speak to said critic. Roger Ebert, considered one of the greatest film critics of all time, would often talk about how a film spoke to him based on his own personal experiences. In other words, he would bring his personal bias into the film and that would influence how the material spoke to him and then he would tell us this. A film review is an opinion piece: if you have a problem with this then you have a problem with film criticism.
  9. I definitely encourage you to do more of these! And not just negative reviews but also of movies you like! I'm also hoping Suicide Squad is better than this mess (can't be that hard). I also think it would be interesting to get your thoughts when Civil War comes out! Anyways, I was thinking about this and I realized something. It isn't just Supergirl/The Flash cross-over (as well as the Flash/Arrow cross-overs which also have a contrast between a light hero and a far darker hero) who did it a lot better. It was Daredevil. People pointed out that Daredevil S1 was what S1 Gotham wanted to be. I'd dare say that despite it's flaws, Daredevil S2 is exactly what BvS wanted to be. Spoilers for Daredevil S2:
  10. It's not going to be forgotten. This film was a major entry in the DC Expanded Universe. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  11. And my basic point is that a review of a creative source by it's own existence should be and is partial no matter who wrote it. Trying to dismiss a review for being subjective is thus trying to say that the entire field of film criticism. In other words, it's not tainted: it's working exactly as it should. Criticism has always been a protected form of speech in 'Merica. It's called the first amendment.
  12. We've disabled all third-party plug-ins to see if they improve site speed. This test will last 24 hours. Tapatalk access is also gone during that period. UPDATE: We've re-enabled Tapatalk for now.
  13. We don't get bad examples in film school. Some film professors think it's fine to watch bad movies on your own time and learn from them. Other film professors think that's a waste of time. Either ways, it's not a part of the classroom.
  14. Hey! My screenwriting professor showed a scene from TA to show great character writing in terms of how each character had different motivations/agenda! I doubt he'll use that example for years and years though. But sadly no TDK.
  15. SWXII is just annoyed that like 99.99% of films, Batman vs. Superman probably won't be taught at film school for years and years.
  16. Judged by the majority of the film community as a whole. The film scholar community isn't that big, you know.
  17. Cause film schools are supposed to teach people about how to make great films so it's useful to use films that are universally well-regarded to teach students the basics?
