  1. Synopsis - Set in a fictional country called Daeho that does not exist in history or on maps, it is about the love and growth of young mages as they overcome their twisted fates due to a forbidden magic spell known as the "alchemy of souls", which allows souls to switch bodies. It follows the story of an elite female assassin named Naksu, whose soul is accidentally trapped inside the weak body of Mu Deok—Jang Uk's servant from a powerful and noble mage family in the country. The young master of the Jang Family, Jang Uk, holds a dark secret about his scandalous birth. Their fates will be intertwined in this epic fantasy tale. ------------------------------------------------------------------ So I stumbled upon this the other day, started it and I must say I was surprised! I thought it was kinda cool Now word of warning it's an action/drama/romance kdrama so know what to expect, there will be cheesy romance, there will be drama, there won't be that much action for sure, but if it always looks like this when there's action then it's promising! A bit of a throwback to the Hong Kong Tsui Hark vibes from the 1990's "magical swordfighting" era, except well obviously it's CGI now but still very fun Here are some samples from the first episode, which I enjoyed It's very exaggerated and irreverent but that's what I like about it. Anyway, so yeah, I've watched a few episodes and would recommend it so far, and I can't wait to continue watching. Definitely feels different and kind of its own thing, if that's what you're after (something unique) Trailer:
  2. D&D tanking as much as it did isn't a surprise, it got released on digital 3 days ago
  3. Safe to say that GOTG3's disappointing DOM BO has absolutely nothing to do with James Gunn. Seems to me like he did the job he was hired to do very well. The underperformance is all Marvel's fault and only theirs.
  4. Excellent post. I agree. We're seeing the effects of their bad decisions now with GOTG3, where even a movie with great reception gets hits pretty hard. Took a while but the debt was due one day. I don't think it's only due to quality. I think they had it coming no matter what. I knew this would happen the second they started announcing Disney+ shows back then. It dilutes the brand like crazy, removes the "MCU = hype, watch in theater" subconscious association people had in their minds, and unless all of them are excellent and near-flawless (which they weren't), people will lose interest simply due to the amount of content there is to catch up with. It was already a (smaller) problem leading up to Endgame but people kept up with it to get the ending that was in sight, and after it just became way too much. MCU movies are simply no longer must watch right now. Will they ever be once again? Who knows. But some people have been burned off and they will probably never come back. However, a movie like this will certainly help to get things back on track since it seems to be good. Marvel need to do 2 things: Make movies that people like again Slow down on the output, especially TV shows. Perhaps stop releasing TV shows altogether would be my advice TBH (except those which are done filming). It HURTS the brand like you have no idea. New MCU releases stopped being events the minute the TV shows started being released, and it's their event status that made them into what they were during phase 3. Releasing one or two shows would have been fine but they went wayyyyyyyyyy overboard. I think WandaVision actually helped build hype back for Marvel when it was released, but that's due to the barren release slate caused by the Pandemic, so that was excellent timing due to dumb luck. But they over-played their hand by a gargantuan margin. I said earlier that people associated MCU with "must-watch, in theaters", due to the long theatrical window. As long as they kept it at a reasonable output rate, it would have stayed relevant. It's a subconscious association and it's a powerful one, akin to the "Holidays = Star Wars" period between 2015 and 2019 that Lucasfilm had going (which they NEVER should have dropped, even skipping a year is better than dropping it altogether). Avatar 2 was really smart to keep that Christmas release date association with the original. Nostalgic for those who went in 2009. People want stability in their entertainment activities. They're basically only looking for an excuse to go out, give them one! But one that's stable, expected, reliable, and of familiar quality. Basically, Marvel should have released only around half of what they have released since Endgame. Scrap all but 1 or 2 of the TV shows. That would also have indirectly positively affected the quality of the remaining releases as the executives overseeing the whole thing wouldn't have been so in over their heads as we all know they were. Well that became a massive wall of text out of nowhere. Essentially I wanted to say that I agree with you lmao
  5. Super Mario Bros actually went up from last week-end here in my Province of Quebec This week-end Last week-end That's insane! Haven't seen that in a long time. NA-wide it dropped 35% so huge overperformance here
  6. Revenge of the Sith should hold the Guinness World Record for most memes originating from a movie
  7. $22.1M OS week (83.9 - 61.8) vs $24.9M the week before (61.8 - 36.9), that's a low drop right?
  8. Anyone who might be able to get numbers for the upcoming Quebec movie Farador? In terms of Box Office. It should only be playing in QC theaters, but it's Province-wide releasing this week-end. I have no idea how to get numbers for this thing otherwise
  9. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing. But it doesn't matter. _________________________________________ Stunts - 90/100 | I like how the filmmakers just don't give a fuck at this point about having any kind of logic. John Wick will survive anything, do anything, it will be overlong, there will be too many of every single thing there can be too many of, and yet it's still gonna be great. Narrative - 70/100 | Ian McShane steals the show as expected, but this time around the narrative is leaner (somehow, and in a movie that's 40 minutes longer than the previous one). Fight Choreography - 93/100 | Yeah it's just great. I think the Paris street sequence was the worst, while the Osaka International was the best. At least in terms of fights. The one-take gunfight was also awesome. Enjoyment - 75/100 | We get a glimpse here of assassins who fight among themselves instead of all of them being hellbent on killing John Wick as a group, and I think it should have been a part of the earlier movies too. Makes the action much more colorful when different parties have different wants instead of just the main character vs hordes of enemies with a single and unified purpose. I loved Donnie Yen in this, I loved Scott Adkins in this, I loved Hiroyuki Sanada in this, I loved Marko Zaror in this. This is like a love letter to martial arts movie fans with lots of old school veterans, except with guns. And it's way too long. Usually I care, but not this time. Hopefully we get another movie in this franchise one day. B+
  10. This looks great, am definitely hyped! Looks better than the first one at least.
  11. Well at least this movie should be quite popular on streaming, since there aren't many obstacles preventing people from watching it. I play D&D with friends and we've been playing for years, I told one of them that this movie was actually great, the reviews are great, it's a great D&D movie... and yet he's not going to watch it until it comes out on streaming. I mean, what does it take for you to watch a movie about a franchise you love? It literally has got everything. Reviews, word of mouth... clearly there's something here, not sure what exactly, that makes even massive fans of the franchise just... not go see it edit: 94% RT audience score... what will it take lmao
  12. Yeah barring a miracle this is dead going forward. A shame, the lesson for Hollywood here is that quality doesn't matter. I hate when Hollywood can draw that conclusion
  13. People who weren't predisposed to see this movie just simply aren't changing their minds, no matter how people rave about it. An unfortunate result of the "image" D&D has, I think, in terms of what you can expect from the movie.
  14. finished it, great show At first I thought that Bella Ramsey was miscast but she turned out to be a real star as the show progressed
  15. As a D&D nerd who's been playing since 1998, this movie is simply awesome. Good times can be had for non-fans too since it's easily digestible, but the attention to details concerning the lore, the spells, the items, the way things work, is worthy of praise. Lots of nods, lots of references, and lots of fun. 2 highlights for me: The Wild Shape 'one-take' chase sequence, holy moly that was good and so creative. The graveyard sequence, just pure hilarity. The CGI was a bit wonky at times, but I would say that overall it was definitely at an acceptable level. Nowhere near recent Marvel-levels of bad. And great practical effects. The story is convoluted a bit and moves too fast. At some point they go to retrieve something important and it's a bit off. Like that should have been cut I think. Instead just find another way for the group to get this thing. They travel through enormous distances a bit too easily in my opinion. But it's really a rollicking story and never loses its purpose so I guess it works. Aside from one sequence in a dark armory that was cut awkwardly, the action is largely easy to follow and quite inventive. The druid and her Wild Shape shenanigans are the highlights of the action, although every cast member gets their moment to shine at some point. The fights are slightly over-edited as always but it's mostly competent here, and the intertwining of magic throughout spices things up quite a bit. Magic is used to great effect in this movie, loved that about it. Not quite as amazing as it could be but the action is definitely one of the reasons why this movie is great. Chris Pine is an excellent leading man as everybody already knows. However, two characters stole the show on and off: the druid in the action scenes, and Hugh Grant whenever he was on. It's a bit trashy but in a good way. Also, we need to talk about that Bird Ambassador and why he's not more important. Replace all side characters with a birdman for the sequel please, thank you very much! A-
  16. can we PLEASE not have a marvel vs avatar discussion in a thread about the D&D movie? Seriously who started that shit Anyway, this was a banging movie! I absolutely loved it There's so much good here, and a few small negatives (the pacing is frenetic), but the action scenes are delightful, especially the one-take chase. The druid and her wild shape shenanigans are really something! It's a fun movie, it has heart, it's exciting, and even some emotion. Strong recommend from me. I hope it does well
  17. Andor is incredible. Almost single-handedly renewed my faith in the franchise.
  18. Years ago I would have agreed with you. But having seen hundreds if not thousands of movies since then, I no longer agree. Not because what you say is false, but because... No amount of logic or reasoning or explanation will make someone change how they feel about a movie (generally). That is how baumer feels. That's how the movie made him feel. You can explain all you want that the movie was exactly how it was marketed to be, or that the TFA+TLJ story progression makes perfect sense, but the truth is that some people felt that it didn't. That it went against everything TFA set up. That they felt betrayed by the story and its handling of the characters. And that is all there is to it. I'm mostly ambivalent on this (I used to hate TLJ but after a rewatch I gave it around a 7/10) but I can see where baumer is coming from. Sometimes, emotions trump everything else. Sorry for continuing the dreaded TLJ discussion but I feel like people are being unfairly mean to his opinion here... edit: For the record I've always enjoyed your contributions around these forums George, they're always insightful, keep doing what you're doing. I just had to throw my 2 cents here
  19. true classic Spiritual predecessor to the Mass Effect game trilogy The only game I haver ever completed only to immediately start a second playthrough minutes later. Deserves its #1 game on the list indeed!
  20. Like I said on my letterboxd review on Episode IX: So out of the 3 Original Trilogy heroes, 2 kill themselves through force exhaustion, while the other one gets murdered by his own son, who then also proceeds to kill himself through force exhaustion. The fact that no one important at Lucasfilm realized this was a deplorable way to handle those characters is quite perplexing to me. If this was supposed to be a happy ending to the saga (because it's clearly trying to be)... near miss? Dreadful writing in this movie.
  21. Being able to play Mon Mothma dual-wielding lightsabers remains a highlight of the Jedi Knight franchise
  22. Just be glad that these lesser-known Star Wars media are getting some recognition tbh
  23. I love it, this top will make us discover perhaps Star Wars stuff that we didn't know existed. Like this for me Love this period so might check it out. Thanks!
  24. I think wtf and disbelief might be redundant a bit? They kinda convey the same message Otherwise I like the new set
