  1. This thread needs an update. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/captain-americas-sebastian-stan-joins-924798 According to Soderbergh's twitter the release date is October 13, 2017.
  2. 80-90m I can see. 100m would take incredible legs. With fall weekdays, a harsh drop the weekend after LD, and Blair Witch hitting the week after that... I just don't see how that's possible.
  3. I liked this but not nearly as much as I wanted to. Great image & sound as expected and Fanning, Malone and Reeves are good, but Heathcote and Lee's characters never earn their screentime, the structure gets all screwed up by the end leading to like 6 false endings (the final 30 minutes felt like an eternity, and pacing has never been a problem for me in Refn films before). A lot of the dialogue fell flat for me too, even as intentionally stilted and blunt. My least favorite Refn since Fear X. (I disliked Only God Forgives on first viewing, but grew to appreciate it later; somehow I don't see that happening here).
  4. I keep thinking of Black Swan, which made $107m with the exact same release pattern this is going to have (platform release the first week of December, wide expansion the weekend before Christmas... they both premiered in Venice too). Add glowing reviews, Oscar buzz, and likely great word-of-mouth, and I really think $100m is more likely than not.
  5. It's obviously not locked, but it's in a strong position now that we know people love it.
  6. It probably won't win but it'll be a huge surprise if it misses the nomination.
  7. I have a feeling Loving is gonna get Carol'd.
  8. From the AV Club interview: AVC: It sounds like, for you, being middle-of-the-road is not an option. FA: No. It would be depressing. With my movies, at least. We all have things—in my everyday life, I can be as square as I want. But when it comes to movies and telling stories, I can’t. I’ve got to be radical, and on some level, that’s what I like to do. I like to get the audiences cozy in their seats, feeling safe, and suddenly they’ll be shocked out of their minds. They’ll go, “How is this thing playing here?” He'd definitely get depressed at Marvel. Better keep doing what he likes and is good at.
  9. Hell or High Water getting recognized here would be one of the most deserved noms of the season. Not sure it'll get in though.
  10. Yeah the plotting isn't too strong here. The direction and Levy and Lang's performances are good enough that those aren't huge problems though.
  11. Don't Breathe deserves every buck it's gonna make and Hell or High Water is heading for a sub-35% PTA drop despite doubling its theater count. Good weekend.
  12. I share my birthday with... uhh... Nia Vardalos and Kevin Sorbo? I guess I do have some good memories of watching the Hercules TV series as a kid...
  13. Between the running chainsaw in Evil Dead and the turkey baster full of semen in this, I hope Jane Levy has it written into her contract that she gets to jam something as unpleasant and horrific as humanly possible into the antagonist's mouth in every movie she does. Gripping and intense stuff for nearly its entire runtime. Found the resolution a bit too neat though.
