  2. Lack of interest in Bros makes sense to me after reading the logline, it sounds like another movie that exists in an industry(-adjacent) bubble a la Late Night. "Museum director falls in love with a lawyer after being hired to write a gay romantic comedy" this has never happened to anybody ever, gay or straight
  3. Rolled with it for a good long while but finally went "oh come ON" when the djinn came to London and all of a sudden couldn't bear the technology, as opposed to the magical exotic Istanbul where I guess they don't have TVs and cell phones. The best parts are all in the hotel room, Swinton actively engaging with Elba and trying to find out what the catch is. The effects are occasionally creative (the djinn's size when he first appears) but mostly just kinda deadening rather than evocative/transporting.

  5. X did indeed have a $1m budget. It hasn't been reported what Pearl cost but not much more, probably.
  6. What I've read just makes it sound like Green Book 2.0, except instead of Ignorant White Guy Learns Racism Is Bad it's Ignorant White Guy Learns War Is Bad.
  7. I enjoy Robbie's unhinged bit but yeah it's not new. Stone would have been a lot more interesting.
  8. That's gonna translate to weekend drops around 60% given last weekend was inflated. They're in free fall.
  9. The "hilariously" part gives me hope since everything I've read (haven't seen yet, admittedly) about Field's first two films made them (and him) seem dour as hell.
  10. West Side Story should have released after NWH, in the Greatest Showman slot (with King's Man and ideally also Matrix moving elsewhere). Wouldn't have magically made it a hit, but it'd at least mean no collapse in second weekend, maximized holidays and a release two weeks closer to the Oscar nominations.

  12. I loved The Winslow Boy when I saw it a few years ago. Immaculate direction of someone else's material from him there. Need to watch more myself. I also remember State and Main being very funny.
  13. I'm an E.T. convert. Saw it for the first time as an edgy teen, was bored by it. Finally revisited a few weeks ago, bawled like a baby the last 10 minutes. E.T. is a real one.
