Pisses me off that so many of the little miscellaneous records are gone. I particularly liked the #1 weekend market share (ie. Avengers: Endgame's opening was 89% or whatever of the total box office that weekend).
Have to agree here. After the Joker stuff I just have no use for critics. At all. The only reason I check RT every now and then is because unfortunately it's very relevant to box office in some cases.
They're in the young generation of people who are getting bathed and indoctrinated in this PC rhetoric. Every time a new movie is announced they've got their checklists and looking over the cast and crew to see if all the boxes are checked. If not, they whine about the lack of diversity. There's never any attention paid to what the film actually is, what the story is, what they themes are. None of that matters. It's like when we talk about hiring practices nowadays. Merit doesn't even factor in. It's all about identity politics and checklists.
Interesting that both Friday jumps were 104%. I guess because Joker is such a strong weekday player we can't expect the Fridays to be that strong. Otherwise, this weekend's Saturday jump and Sunday drop were almost exactly what I predicted (Sat +45%, Sun -35% is what I had) and pretty standard.
57% after 35 reviews so far. Hopefully it doesn't completely crater critically but whether it does or doesn't, it doesn't seem like this has much traction anyway. Will probably get lost in the shuffle between Terminator: Dark Fate and good holdover options (Joker, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Zombieland: Double Tap).
Hoping I'm wrong though!
I searched but didn't find a thread for this, so here it is.
Coming out on the 1st and not a peep (unsurprisingly), yet is releasing in an astounding 3,600+ theatres (surprisingly!) per BOM! So the question is.....what's going to bomb harder, this or PLAYMOBIL: The Movie??
Thanks for the review @captainwondyful! I don't have much interest in this but at the same time I DO have interest in Jolie and Pfeiffer scene chewing so I guess it's a GO on my end!
Who am I kidding? I was seeing this anyway after the girlfriend begrudgingly accompanied me to Joker....
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil
Numbers are about what I expected.
Joker
Far less than I expected. It's odd, really, but I guess another huge chunk of demand was burnt off after that excellent 2nd weekend hold, not to mention the killer weekdays. Still, I pegged this for a photo finish with Maleficent this weekend, so slightly disappointed.
