In all honesty, I actually can't believe how much this is bombing worldwide. I buy that there wasn't an intense demand for this movie but at the same time I figured the return of Cameron, Linda and Arnold all together would be a bigger deal. Thought this would be a 150-350-500 kind of deal.
A shame for all involved but it should be a huge red flag for the studio that this franchise needs to be laid to rest.
I feel bad, but everyone involved in the production should have seen the writing on the wall. Well, some of the cast probably did but figured why not take the paycheck anyway?
Oof. DOA was an understatement for this random animation. It was last out of the 4 openers this weekend, bringing in $2.9M for a $1,020 PTA.
A close-ish comparable is Ratchet & Clank, which released April 29, 2016 to $4.9M in 2,891 theatres for a $1,684 PTA.
It's a tough, tough market for any animation studio that isn't one of the big guns.
I'm really happy with the performance of this film! Earlier I commented on how it was getting no attention and suddenly it does a respectable $11.7M opening and receives an A+ cinemascore! Looking forward to getting the opportunity to see this.....if my theatre in Kamloops ever decides to bring it in. They had room for Arctic Dogs though...
Well this had a week opening, which was expected. Motherless Brooklyn opened to $3,500,454 in 1,342 theatres for a $2,608 PTA.
Did anyone here end up catching this over the weekend?
