  1. Interesting. I hope this has an unexpectedly good little run at the box office, similar to the frequently postponed Alpha.
  2. Are the visual effects better than they looked in the trailer? The trailers made the movie look kinda fun, but the effects were jarring. It looks like something meant for Disney+ to be honest.
  3. Very nice! Though it's early yet, I'm not surprised. The first was a helluva fun movie and this one looked like more of the same based on the trailer. I haven't been able to see many movies lately based on where I'm living now but whenever I can this one is near the top of my list.
  4. Never got yours and your family's thoughts on it. Did they enjoy it?
  5. Glad you liked it. Do you think the poor box office is due to lack of marketing? Or, despite you liking it, is the film bad enough to justify the box office? Personally I barely saw anything about this leading up to release. Nadda. Clearly a dump by Lionsgate.
  6. Theatre count went down by 209 (12.1%). It's not a lot, but I'm kind of surprised this didn't keep expanding. I suppose it makes sense, as it expanded to 1,627 theatres last weekend and did $3.23M for a $1,986 PTA. Guess Roadside Attractions didn't want to push it anymore.
  7. Exactly a year ago today Sony released the trailer for Escape Room. I was kind of hoping they'd do the same for The Grudge. Hopefully we get something today. Maybe Monday.
  8. I'm guessing we'll get a teaser in November. It seems common for films that aren't based on huge IP's or have big names attached (like Nolan as director, for instance) to get a first trailer around 3 months before release.
  9. I hope you enjoy it @SLAM!. I think it looks fine. My girlfriend wants to see it too so in all likelihood I'll be seeing it on the 1st or sometime that weekend. Definitely let us know your thoughts after seeing it!
  10. What kind of multi would you guess for Maleficent off $3M previews?
  11. Yep, pretty much. Actually, WB's situation is unique in that they seem to have TWO good things going. On one hand they've been successful lately with their more family friendly/4-quadrant DCEU films (Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam), while on the other hand the dark, gritty and controversial Joker is doing gangbusters! If I were Warner Bros. I'd think about going ahead with two different DC slates: the newly improved DCEU with their otherworldly heroes, and a dark, mature Batman universe (a dark and mature tone just suits Batman). It doesn't even have to be just Batman, but a more mature DC universe, period (ie. they could do a Lex Luthor film in the vein of Joker and have it exist in this universe). I think there's enough audience to go around for both. I guess I just really, really want to see what WB and Matt Reeves have in store with The Batman in 2021. Ugh, such a long wait.
  12. Based on these numbers so far I'm now thinking Joker has a great chance to three-peat, whereas before today I had Maleficent doing around $45M to win the weekend. I think both J and M will end up being neck and neck.
  13. What about if both characters (Arthur Fleck and Batman) never co-exist but the Joker film existed in the universe of Reeves' Batman film(s)?
  14. He is, and it's fairly obvious when Batman and Commissioner Gordon, likely among others, are re-cast. Like, how is this even a question? I'm on board with it too. Batman is like Spider-Man in that he can adequately exist in his own universe, as cool as it is to have him interact with other DC characters. Just have Reeves do his own thing with the world of Batman, except hopefully he expands it more than Nolan did with just a trilogy. In fact, Batman can be a cinematic universe unto itself because it doesn't just have to be Batman movies. They could do other movies based on other characters and events within his world. For instance, it would be awesome if Joker existed in that universe and essentially got things started. If we actually got an entire darker, film noir Batman cinematic universe then I think I'd die.
  15. Sounds just about right. I have it at $4.4M (-10%). No data, just my own thought.
  16. This is more or less what the film looked like to me based on the trailers. Glad you had a good time.
  17. I don't get it either, but she still got a lot of buzz for it for some reason. I mean, she's a fantastic actress so obviously she was legitimately great in all her scenes. I just feel like there wasn't a big enough body of work within that film for her to get awards recognition for it.
  18. I know people are infatuated with the Friday the 13th release date idea but now that The Boy 2 has moved from December 6, anyone think it would be a good idea to move this there? Give it a little room before the Christmas blockbusters hit? We say it about any Christmas movie and I think it applies to Christmas horrors too: it's going to completely die after Christmas. May as well release it at the beginning of December so you've got a couple weeks of relevance. Personally, I think it'll happen. The studio probably likes the Friday the 13th gimmick but undoubtedly they like the thought of more money moreso.
  19. Also, @Eric Addams do you want to change the date in the thread title to February 21, 2020?
