  1. First was surprisingly fun so here's hoping this one can capture that. Should be called "Cloudy With a Chance of Leftovers" though. Sounds much better.
  2. And JC doesn't look to be quite the disaster to end all disasters many of us were expecting (not that it's still not bombing hard). I for one was prepared to see like a $5m Friday estimate though.
  3. Admittedly higher than I expected for JC, though that's still under all circumstances pretty awful.
  4. Lorax would have to have one of the worst multipliers for an animated movie ever to miss 200m.
  5. And as I've mentioned all along the marketing for it was brilliant in its intensity and in appealing to kids of all ages and both genders.Whoever was in charge of marketing it needs a big raise.
  6. No but it will have spring break, so it could have decent weekdays throught March. That's partly why we have a big animated or family hit almost every March.
  7. Simply amazing for Lorax. I had high expectations for it but it even beat my lofty prediction of $60-65m. What's craziest is all it needs is a 4.2.x multiplier (not a hard multiplier for an animated movie wih good WOM to hit) and it would hit 300m! I couldn't be happier to FINALLY see an animated movie kick ass again at the box office. Was getting a little scared for the genre after 2011. Hopefully this is foreshadowing a great year for animation.
  8. Yikes, the big grossers that year really sucked, save for a few. Good thing there were several good smaller films.1. Pan's Labyrinth - A+2. The Departed - A+3. Casino Royale - A4. The Prestige - A5. The Lives of Others - A6. Children of Men - A-7. The Descent - A-8. Little Miss Sunshine - A-9. Letters From Iwo Jima - A-10. V for Vendetta - B+11. United 93 - B+12. The Last King of Scotland - B+13. The Illusionist - B+14. Mission Impossible 3 - B+15. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - B16. Blood Diamond - B17. The Pursuit of Happyness - B18. Rocky Balboa - B19. Flags of Our Fathers - B20. Stranger Than Fiction - B
  9. ^ It's too bad for DW Dragon wasn't this year, that would have crushed all the others and won easily.
  10. It's funny that you seem to think the only reason The Artist got all this recognition was because the Academy is a bunch of old farts and they're the only ones that can relate to or enjoy it. Yet from my personal experiences just the opposite has been true. I went to the movie with a few of my friends once, and then my mom and sister the other time. It was my friends and my sister who liked or loved the movie, and my Mom who thought it was mediocre and didn't want to watch a silent movie. If anything I think the Artist comes off as refreshing to a lot of younger audiences because we've never seen anything like it. And most critics mentioned what a breath of fresh air it was. That's likely to be the real reason it got so many accolades, not because the people who give these awards are all 80 or 90 year olds that can remember Chaplin.
  11. It was better in the sense that it was the 2nd best movie nominated, opposed to the 5th or 6th best movie nominated like TKS was. As for which is the better film overall though I'd probably give TKS the edge.
  12. Well it did work for a little movie called The Lion King. But that was an iconic clip.
  13. So if I'm not mistaken I believe the scores are:Impact - 55 pointsglassfairy - 44 pointsmovieman89 - 36 pointsacsc1312- 36 points
  14. 36 pts for me. Darn I was so close to giving it to Hugo for all the technical awards and Dujardin for actor. NEVER would have picked Meryl or Dragon Tattoo for editing though.
  15. If it's TDK level (which will be very hard for it to be) it will get nominated under the new BP rules. If it's more Batman Begins level, which I'm expecting, then I agree it won't.
  16. Yeah that was the biggest WTF year ever for what was nominated, imo. And obviously most people agreed since after that they changed up the BP category.
  17. Me too! I thought for sure they'd give it to Clooney, but Dujardin was just so charming and held the entire movie on his shoulders. So happy to be wrong! And for once my two favorite movies of the bunch swept (Hugo and Artist).
  18. If only it could have done that from the get go.
  19. Yeah I love the ultra early estimates. Gives an idea for the weekend, and it's rarely way off anyways.
  20. IKR? Fun to see people scrambling to jump on the bandwagon now.And BTW I am IN of course.$16m
  21. Act of Valor! :blink:WTF is it with all these huge breakouts of generic movies that look like flops this year.
  22. J2 is doing amazingly well. If The Lorax wasn't coming in next week, it would probably have had tiny drops its whole run.
  23. Trailer (clip?) was decent enough, though I'm finding it a bit hard to get excited over. Basically just her shooting arrows. And furthermore I don't see that do anything to appeal to a kid audience. Still think this will turn out good, though at this point I'm not expecting anything better than a Monsters Inc. Certainly doesn't look up to par with their best, imo.
