  1. IKR? Didn't you just love tossing out the ultra smug eye roll on BOM? This one just comes across like casually sipping coffee.
  2. I think HTTYD is better than half of Pixar's movies, and you won't find a bigger Pixar fan than me. If this ends up anywhere near that level of quality I'll be ecstatic.
  3. Actually I just read a big interview with the guy who played him, Ahmed Best, in a recent issue of Entertainment Weekly. Basically he said he was shocked when all the negative feedback came in, since everyone told him while they were filming he was gonna be the breakout from the movie and it would make him a huge star. :lol:I guess he couldn't get roles after that and basically feels like he never got his dues for helping pioneer motion cap acting. He came off a bit full of himself to me though, trying to compare himself with Andy Serkis and whatnot. I mean the guy seriously needs to watch himself again in TPM if he thinks he was anywhere near the level of any of Andy Serkis' mo caps.

  5. Was a pic of the jaws of death really necessary? I was eating.
  6. Nicolas Cage has fans!? *shudders at the idea*
  7. Kinda gives a whole new meaning to the movie's title.
  8. Yes, 2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth.
  9. Well we could have a 2nd weekend in a row with 4 movies over $20m, so yeah that's good.
  10. Hugo A+ The Descendants - B+ The Artist B+ Moneyball B+ War Horse B The Help B Midnight in Paris B The Tree of Life C Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close F (worst BP nominee I've ever seen)
  11. Ah, didn't know that. That makes much more sense. Still not too promising a start though.
  12. Only $1.6m for TMW? That's horrible considering Valentine's Day + the ultra aggressive marketing campaign its had.
  13. For the box office's sake that would be fantastic. For every single other intent, dear god I hope it doesn't do that much.
  14. Potter: Philosopher's Stone: B- Chamber of Secrets: B- Prisoner of Azkaban: B+ (overrated, but still very good) Goblet of Fire: D+ (sorry, but they mutilated my favorite book of the series) Order of the Phoenix: B Half-Blood Prince: B+ Deathly Hallows 1: A- Deathly Hallows 2: A+ Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring: A+ The Two Towers: A Return of the King: A+ Star Wars: A New Hope: A Empire Strikes Back: A+ Return of the Jedi: B The Phantom Menace: D- (Pod race/lightsaber duel save it from an F) Attack of the Clones: C (Christensen nearly ruins an otherwise solid movie with some of the worst acting I've ever seen) Revenge of the Sith: B (An A outside of some truly cringe inducing dialogue and acting between Portman and Christensen) Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl: A+ Dead Man's Chest: B At World's End: B On Stranger Tides: D Twilight: Twilight: D+ New Moon: F Didn't see the rest Transformers: Transformers: A- Revenge of the Fallen: F (Possibly the worst big franchise sequel I've ever seen. Zero redeeming qualities) Dark of the Moon: C- Mission Impossible: Mission Impossible: B+ Mission Impossible 2: C Mission Impossible 3: B+ Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol: A Toy Story: Toy Story: A Toy Story 2: A Toy Story 3: A+ X-Men: X-Men: B X2: X-Men United: A- X-Men: The Last Stand: C X-Men Origins: Wolvierine: D X-Men: First Class: A Spider-Man: Spider-Man: A- Spider-Man 2: A Spider-Man 3: C (not quite as bad as its reputation) Batman: Batman: B Batman Returns: B Batman Forever: C- Batman and Robin: D- (Couldn' give it an F, because it is fun to watch and laugh at it) Batman Begins: B+ The Dark Knight: A+
  15. In some ways it's good to see most of the general public has half their memory left and obviously aren't being duped into paying money to see The Phantom Mess again. Anyways it's done enough for them to continue these 3D re-releases, so that's all that matters. Bring on 2015 and A New Hope!
  16. Lol, I totally knew you would loathe this movie Baumer. I mean such an understated movie must feel like water torture to a guy who thinks a film requires at least a dozen explosions to ever be worthy of an A. :PI will say I think this movie is already dipping a tad into the overrated pool, but far far worse films have won BP in the past decade than this. The Hurt Locker, No Country For Old Men, Crash, and Chicago for example.
  17. Sorry, but you are incorrect. About the only times critics tend to be off with the public are with big franchise sequels (which will usually do well irregardless of quality) and small indie films. Otherwise the movies that do well, far more often than not, mimic critical reception. Just because YOU disagree with critics most of the time isn't in any way indicative of the general public's opinion.
  18. Exactly. I'm sorry but people are kidding themselves if they think it has solely to do with appeal. The past 2 years alone have proven otherwise.
  19. Right, and I think that partly has to do with the cycles of the box office I mentioned. It's a lot easier for movies to breakout when the box office is thriving. So if we're in a revival cycle after the slump of the past two years, that would explain why some of these movies are breaking out this year. I've never believed it all has to do strictly with movie appeal, there's too many times in box office history that disprove that theory. Timing is everything.
  20. I believe it all has to do with cycles of the box office, and it could just so happen that the cycle switched this time around the New Year.
  21. But I find it hard to believe that we're not in a box office revival when nearly every week of 2012 has seen at least one surprising breakout, and primarily with the standard slew of generic January/February releases. I don't see anything about any of these breakout movies this year that have been more appealing than the usual crop of crap released this time of year. The box office rebounding seems to be the only explanation, and if that's the case then yes that will affect everything. It doesn't mean everything will breakout, but movies in general will do better than the last 2 years.
  22. Oh I think this box office revival will certainly benefit everything next month if it holds up that long, but even so I still think JC is destined to have the lowest opening of those 4. A $40m OW would be an ambitious goal for it to hit, imo.
  23. On the downside, I hope this doesn't mean GR2 is in for a big OW this weekend. I despise Nic Cage and pretty much any movie he does.
  24. If this box office streak holds up into March, hello 50m+ OW Lorax & Titans and 80m+ OW Hunger Games.
  25. No, Clones will do worse. But yes, the other 4 shoud definitely do better.
