  1. They need to pull a Beyoncé and just drop it without any promotion sometime in January. No one would have time to plan an attack and we can all enjoy Kim Jong Un's exploding head like we enjoyed his father getting blown up in puppet form ten years ago.
  2. I'm guessing now it's not on there Well I see Interstellar walking away with this anyway. And it would be justified. edit: ok I just checked out the shortlist. Maleficent... really?
  3. I'm rooting for Apes to win. The visual effects were really good. And it's a movie that really does a great job of integrating the effects with the live actors. I think movies like Hobbit 3 and Transformers 4 that are basically just cartoons at this point might get skipped. A reason why Into The Woods will sneak in as well. Interstellar would be my best bet for the win though. Nolan films do great on a technical level. And since reception for the screenplay was mixed, it might walk away with a bunch of technical awards.
  4. So exciting to see Moore about to sweep like crazy. On the one hand there's no excitement come Oscar time, but on the other hand, it's about damn time. It'll probably be like last year when Blanchett ruled thanks to another career defining performance.
  5. There's also a serious lack of vision at DWA. When I saw the trailer for Home I really just wanted to cry. Who does this appeal to? Hell, Nickelodeon would reject a TV show like this, so why make a feature film? All of the films on their slate, and recent features, are conceptually weak. PIXAR and Disney are high on concept and storytelling. And thanks to those pointing out that Katzenberg was not solely responsible for Disney's renaissance. I would also point out Howard Ashman as the main man behind this success.
  6. International grosses will keep them afloat. But this is still disastrous.
  7. The Penguins number is shockingly low. Oh how the tables have turned in animation.
  8. Why would Penguins do $150 Million if Enchanted and Muppets couldn't do that off the same opening day number? This is just more bad news for Dreamworks Animation. Katzenberg wants to sell it and take seat at the board of directors of whichever studio buys it. But he's no John Lasseter and DWA is nowhere near the value of PIXAR. This whole thing is going to get ugly for the studio real soon. They need a hit and there is nothing on the horizon that looks like a hit.
  9. That is lovely concept art. Finally something from this film that makes it look somewhat appealing.
  10. What went wrong is probably the audience being fed up with these ridiculous two part franchise finales. They exist solely to make money instead of trying to tell the story in the best possible way. People have had enough.
  11. What's with the overestimating this weekend? Sheesh. Still way more than I thought Dumb and Dumber To would do. I suppose there is some star power left in Carrey. Wish he'd do another classic comedy instead of rehashes of old hits.
  12. I only saw the first show. So I don't know what happened later. Sad that they apparently ruined it.
  13. I hate the concept that if something is for 3 year olds that it's allowed to be crap. It's such a lazy attitude. But I agree Het Huis Anubis was good. And also a hit internationally.
  14. English is hard I know, but I see you're from Canada....
  15. It's embarrassing for Belgium considering all Studio 100 productions are complete crap. They simply figured out the secret to success: lots of overexposure to the very youngest children who don't see the difference in quality yet. I'm glad they're not bigger than Disney in the Netherlands yet. Something I also don't see happening ever.
  16. Excellent for Big Hero 6. If it can manage $200 million that would be another victory in Disney animation's new renaissance or whatever we're going to end up calling this.
  17. I don't understand why Paramount never bought them. They have Nickelodeon as a window for spin-offs. Dreamworks' library suits that company perfectly. Anyone know why that deal fell through a few years ago?
  18. If Streep's acting is even half as good as her singing in 'Last Midnight' she should walk away with this one. She sounds so much better than on Mamma Mia. I guess she was born for Sondheim. Not surprising.... more class. I'm rooting for Laura Dern to get a nod too. She's having a bit of a comeback ever since Enlightened (underrated HBO show).
  19. I had no idea they were pushing her for supporting. And I listened to the previews. Holy HELL... she SLAYS 'Last Midnight'. She could easily snag supporting if she's up against Arquette I agree. I hope she goes for her fourth Oscar. She's the greatest actress alive, so she needs more Oscars to go with this title.
  20. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney found this thing in some storage room at Lucasfilm when they bought the place. And now they're dumping it in January. Looks like shit.
  21. The only problem here is the fact that the third one ended things perfectly. This is not like Shrek Forever After, where they were coming off the complete pile of garbage known as Shrek The Turd.
  22. In battles like these the animated feature often comes out on top. Can't believe so many people expected Interstellar to easily win this one or make considerably more than it is going to.
  23. Lego Movie deserves to win from what I've seen so far. If not Lego then something independent. We'll see.
  24. Right now I'm going to guess: Felicity Jones Rosamund Pike Reese Witherspoon Julianne Moore Meryl Streep Moore is long overdue, so I'll be rooting for her. But Rosamund Pike could stage an upset easily. There's serious acclaim for her performance. I think Meryl will also make it in if they're pushing her for lead. She's singing Sondheim now... not ABBA. The material is meatier, more challenging and originated by Bernadette Peters, the Meryl Streep of Broadway if you will. The rare, unique double threat of singing and acting will work its magic. I'm not feeling Amy Adams. I want her to win as much as anyone, but I want it to be deserved and for the role of a lifetime. I have no doubt it will come to her anyway. Just look at Julianne Moore. Her legacy as an actress is no less impressive without that Oscar. I would say she's considered to be in the same league as peers like Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet and Glenn Close. Amy Adams is in for the long run like these ladies. She's young and there's plenty of great stuff to be made. Maybe far away from Harvey Weinstein.
  25. Tumblr controversies are ridiculous. This community needs to realize the real world doesn't give a shit about what they think. Half of normal people don't even know what tumblr is.
