  1. I don’t think I’ve ever watch a Nolan movie that felt too long. I’ve watched plenty that tried to fit too much into their runtime, which is a different but equally annoying problem.
  2. No interest in Gaga but I can’t deny being curious at how this turns out. There’s an admirable ‘go for broke’ quality to making it a musical whatever else you say about it.
  3. If you have to qualify a post about a crappy Disney remake with this sentence, the post definitely isn't worth making.
  4. Please stop making me root for the movie with this stupidity. I really don't want to.
  5. Just read the previous movei barely scraped past 200m, about half what I thought it had made. How is it considered a success? Was the budget unusually low?
  6. Never saw it but I read a lot of bad reviews. Don't think anyone can be surprised.
  7. No, you’re correct. The show was good, but for all the “they finally broke the videogame adaptation curse” comments I think it actually demonstrates the limits of videogame adaptation. Gameplay is also storytelling.
  8. The hong kong protesters are absolutely in the right and only an authoritarian bootlicker would think otherwise.
  9. Thought this was interesting. I wasn't in love with the film but there's no denying it looked great. Roger Deakins says The Batman had the best cinematography of the year: https://deadline.com/2023/03/roger-deakins-oscars-best-cinematography-not-nominated-breaking-baz-1235286295/
  10. A decent if rushed finale. It felt like they suddenly ran out of money and had to wrap it up asap. If you played the game I really have no idea what more you take from that episode that you didn't get the first time, but then I generally dislike slavishly faithful adaptations so maybe that's just me. With that in mind I'm actually quite interested in season 2! It'll be an absolutely clusterfuck if they copy the game as much as they did here, so I don't think they'll do that.
  11. Are there any other live action feature remakes in the pipeline, or is this the last of these monstrosities? Are they going to get so desperate they’ll do Hercules next?
  12. Can’t believe they played this premise straight.
  13. Usually when this show copies the game scene for scene (which is a lot) it falls short, but I didn't feel that here. It somehow worked, probably because David was well-cast. If only we'd gotten more episodes of Joel and Ellie together, up against it. The season simply wasn't long enough for their story.
  14. I like the idea of the Wick movies but in practice they're just ok. The first one is a decent feature-length meme but the next two went so far up their own silly lore assholes. I can't begin to entertain the idea the the next movie might 3 hours of that.
  15. I think people's silence on this says more than words ever could. Thanks for the tacit answer everyone 😔
  16. Was season 2 any good? I quite enjoyed the first but the feature of low-key, low-stakes ended up feeling like a bug by the finale. Did it up the ante after that, or was it more of the same?
  17. I haven't seen an MCU movie at the cinema in 11 years so I'm not the best case-study but I had no idea Ant-Man was phase 5. I thought it was just another bad phase 4 movie.
  18. Makes me hopeful Armstrong has a really strong ending in mind. No doubt HBO would have wanted it to go on much longer.
  19. I have no strong opinion about this movie but the gaming community would be happy with anything that allows them to go "wow, that looks like the thing I played!" See how they lost their shit at Sonic's first appearence and were then fine when the eyes were corrected.
  20. An absorbing episode (Pascal really is very good) but waaay too much of Joel and Ellie’s relationship is happening offscreen, which means moments like him deciding to ditch her with Tommy don’t hit nearly as hard as the game. I enjoy lean storytelling but this feels like it’s absolutely sprinting to the finish line in a way the source material didn’t.
  21. They've gone full MCU dialogue with her (or at least had, haven't seen the most recent episode). Which I think is a shame - that wasn't what made the game character good and something has definitely been lost in translation.
