Yara(Asha) going on a quest to rescue Theon? Balon not dying? Jaime arriving early to KL? Stannis' Northbound plot being accelerated? No Lady Stoneheart reveal?

 

Some very, very strange choices made here. Not a fan of some of them.

I imagine Yara's quest will have her end up in the same place as in the books. Moat Cailin.I'm also guessing Balon will die in the beginning of S4.Is the Stannis plot really accelerated that much? He was always going to end up at the Wall next season.

Yes it is. Davos doesn't set Edric free and read the letter to Stannis until after Joffrey dies.

 

First 1 king dies, Stannis is intrigued but knows it could just be a coincidence. Then a second king dies, Stannis is now believing in Melisandre's spell and is seriously considering sacrificing Edric, but Davos reminds him that "two is not three" so Stannis agrees to wait. Then Joffrey dies, Stannis is now believing in what Melisandre claims will happen if Edric is sacrificed but is still tortured over whether to do it or not, and before he can make a decision Davos sends Edric away with some escort. Stannis and Melisandre are pissed but before he can pronounce a judgment Davos reads the letter from the Night's Watch.

She wasn't at Moat Cailin when the Crannogmen attacked it or when Ramsey sent Theon to take it.But remember, just because the finale had her going on a quest doesn't mean she'll get far. Balon will probably die and she'll be called back for the Kingsmoot.So Stannis' arc is accelerated by 1, maybe 2, episodes. It's really not a big deal.

I would have it either Episode 3 or 4. They gotta introduce Mace Tyrell and Oberyn Martell first and their effect on King's Landing politics.

At least 3 episodes, since the earliest they could put Joffrey's wedding is Episode 2. More like 4-5 episodes IMO.

 

Plus since the big battle at the Wall isn't going to happen until after mid-season, they'll have to invent material for Stannis and company or just leave them out for an even longer period than in the novel.

Well I figured they'd do that anyway. So it's not really a big deal. With the new Martell/Tyrell characters as well as the new Iron Islanders & the Kingsmoot, not to mention Janos Slynt showing up at Castle Black being a dick, they'll have plenty of stuff to fill in for Stannis for a bit.

Still leaves a big gap. Before they did this sudden acceleration, I had figured Stannis/Davos would have their showdown Episode 4 or 5 of Season 4 and Stannis' army would show up to defeat the Wildlings around Episode 7 or 8.

 

That timing still works if they don't simply have Stannis and crew take that long to travel, but have some filler quests and tasks and gathering allies in the first few episodes.
