Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny | June 30 2023 | Very mixed reviews out of Cannes

Recommended Posts

This movie has a 550m+ domestic club. I always thought that was ridiculous. But some of the predictions are going too much in other direction as well. This will still attract while old males for sure to see Indy for one last time. I think final week sales/walkups wont be that bad,

This grave robbing attempt of a film will fall flat at the box office. Red flags everywhere. The only question is how painful the final tally will be. Bringing this to Cannes was a disaster.

It wasn't. Cannes is cool, being there at least in Europe gives you the glamour and a lot of press interest. My national biggest tv news made an entire service about it one month before it cames with all the star at the red carpet, all the fans there and this gives to it a little more the aura of an event, instead of just coming in june with an "ok new indiana jones today".

Bad reviews would have come anyways,

Bad reviews would have come very close to release, not this far. It was objectively terrible decision to start negative WOM 1.5 months in advance.

oh cause people don't just search indiana jones reviews 2 hours before going to the teather, they search about it 2 months before.

If it nothing the average person who casually read a tweet about RT reviews 2 months ago forget about it while it's worst to read about it the day before.

Plus Cannes makes the event, this is why studios love to be there. In my country elvis movie was a no news, then they go to cannes and you got news and everywhere and the buzz of a movie event.

Being in Venice was so so important for Dune or A star is born.

Ummm, but in the softness Disney specific movies have had in 2023, isn't that the exact group semi-abandoning Disney theatrical part of the reason why?

If this was a Paramount movie, I'd agree with you...but it's not...

Most people don't care about whatever Disney/Desantis conflict exists. Hatred towards Disney is, by and large, by terminally online conservatives and doesn't extend to real people. Also not sure if people associate Lucasfilm with Disney, because they sure as hell don't associate Fox or Marvel with Disney.

Yeah. Anti-Disney sentiment is highly limited and if it exists it only extends to their animated projects and probably makes no difference anyways. Avatar 2 making 2.3b should have vanquished this argument.

I think anti disney sentiment is more getting annoyed at disney making remakes of classic for cash grabs

sort of watched the others when they hit cable did not even bother of finish watching a couple of them.
