Possible Friday #s from boxoffice.com

The Mojo headlines get weirder every week. This week's effort from Ray

'Ender' Wins Box Office 'Game,'

Looking forward to "No 'Dark World' at the Box Office as Thor hammers down" and "Box office 'Catches Fire' as Katniss hits the Bullseye" (the second one writes itself)

'Smaug' something something Box Office 'Desolation'

It's not going to get a sequel because the other books don't lend themselves well to a movie franchise. But let's break down the numbers:

110m - published production budget

44m - foreign pre-sales

56m = remaining outlying production expense

Summit/Odd Lot/Digital Domain basically need to gross around 115-120m WW to break even on their production budget. It looks like EG should get at least 70m domestically, so basically they need 50m overseas to do that. We don't know what foreign territories they pre-sold, or what the terms were, but overall the picture is looking pretty positive for the studio & distributors.

And nobody noticed it should be 66 m, not 56, if that number comes from 110-46.

I always enjoy how awful the headlines are there. "Houston, Gravity Does Not Have A Problem" from a few weeks ago must've been the worst yet.

Ender's Game distribution from IMDB.

Looks like Lionsgate still has DVD/Bluray and other media rights in North America, Japan,Australia and in most European markets.

Production Cost -$110 million

Presales +$44 million

P&A - $ 54 million (say)

Total Negative Cost $120 million. If the movie makes $80 million in US, Lionsgate will get around $44 million so they are still short about $76 million which they should be able to make up with homes media and TV rights revenue from US, Australia and Europe. Even if the movie is doing underwhelming business I don't think will lose any money.

Yeah Ender's Game won't likely a big money loser that some here are craving it to be  ;)

Anyway, great holds for Bad Grandpa (is 100m in the cards? I think it has a shot) and Captain Phillips (100m is all but assured). Still solid for Gravity :)

About Time should not expand nationwide next week maybe just a couple of screen, its limited release run so is already so-so and competition is tougher next week, They should expand on Nov. 15 with only Best Man Holiday on wide release
