Yes but you definitely wouldn't know it's a part 1. Especially when the director keeps saying stuff like this:

Why would you advertise it as a Part one. Look at last year, ATSV wasn’t advertised as a part one but still had a great opening and great legs, showing audiences liked it despite the slightly misleading advertising.

Spider Verse was advertised as a part one, it's just wasn't the final title.

This btw seems like the most pointless divion in two parts ever. The plot is not so rich to need 4 hours and more ( i mean the theater show Is like 140-150 minutes long).

The first act of the show ends with a crescendo and that works emotionally cause you see the second act soon after.

Plus It's definitely not like a sure fire hit.

Imo the choice of the 2 parts is really a mystery. It could have been a great 150 minutes movie but they're talking a big risk especially for the second part for no appereant reason.

I can justify the two parts only if both movies are around 100-110 minutes long so they think is more digeribile for the young and family audience than a 160 minutes musical.

But when every part is still 130 minutes long....😅. I hope Is not the case.

I will say I do think this handwringing over Wicked not being advertised as a two-parter is a little silly? Both It and Dune weren't advertised as two-parters, and both had good reception and solid legs. If anything, people were excited for the next one to see how the story continues. As long as the movie delivers, it should be fine. Plus, ending on a banger number like Defying Gravity definitely does well in terms of getting audiences something to chew on at the end and an exciting cliffhanger for the next movie.

It spent a significant amount of time being titled "part 1"

They got separate titles more than a full year before release. Most people would have forgotten about that by the time the movie opened, especially when the final big marketing push made no mention of it being a Part One.

So this will be like Twisters, with most of the gross being from the US

Probably will be way more concentrated towards the coast than Twisters too. Like LA and NYC will end up making a higher percentage of it's gross than any major movie in a long, long time.

Not even slightly the same. Everyone involved made no secret that there was two films, the exact opposite of this.

Universal sparing no expense in the promotional campaign for this. IEWU managing to hit $50M without much crossover appeal beyond its core demo should make a $60M+ opening for this pretty easy, especially when it'll be the first family film in nearly two months (and is beating Moana 2 to the punch by opening earlier) and the geek audience that the IEWU/Deadpool crossover meme was trying to reach (the audience for this is unlikely to be over 80% female like that movie was) is likely to be more open to seeing this as a somewhat compatible big budget IP/nostalgia driven tentpole.
