2014 Academy Awards: The Official Thread (ALL NOMINEES IN THE FIRST POST)

Recommended Posts

DiCaprio's already played all of the roles possible for Oscar. At this point, he just needs to keep doing a great job and rely on luck.

DiCaprio gets screwed out of nowhere. Last year he was the favourite until Waltz stole his nomination and won. People didn't event think Waltz would get in again. This year it's the same. No one thought just before the nominations were announced that Dallas Buyers Club would win anything. As far as most people expected, it would be overlooked by the Academy, pretty much like Prisoners was. He just needs a weak year to snap it then

I thought Gravity was a better movie than 12 Years (though not the best of the BP lineup) but those saying that it should have won BP simply because it doubled up on Oscars is just silly.Cabaret won 8 Oscars. The Godfather won 3, including BP. Does this mean Cabaret should have won BP that year?

Where was Andrew Garfield last night? I swear that almost all Oscar promos I saw or heard on the radio advertised that the guy was gonna present something special.

Yeah, I was wondering that myself. It sounds like Chris Evans stepped in for Garfield, which would make sense because when he came out, they were playing the TASM theme.

Worked out for you.

Base on what I heard of commercials, seems like he should be the one presenting that long heroes/superheroes montage. But we got Chris Evans instead. Did they like, switch him out at the last minute or something, lol.Edit: Well, there you go  Edited by Sam

Interesting note. Weinstein is an Oscar targeting film studio and this is the first time it hasn't gotten a win since 2007. I found that interesting.

Also very dull Oscar ceremony. Gravity is great but the Oscars get boring when one film sweep the nominations. Gravity had the biggest sweep since Slumdog Millionaire in 2008. In fact the 2013 Oscars had the smallest amount of films win Oscars (9). 2003 and 2008 tied this record but most years have had between 11-13 films win Oscars.

I love Let it Go and happy it won but I agree the live performance was not good and the weakest among the 4 nominees :(

Predictable set of winners, I really hoped for one big major shocker but alas it didn't happen

Matthew's speech was not as odd as his last few speeches although he really is a different person now compared to his romcom days
