Weekend Estimates: The Lego Movie - 31.5M | 3 Days to Kill - 12.3M | Pompeii - 10M

The only Paul W.S. Anderson movie I like is literally Mortal Kombat and 99% of that is due to the soundtrack

He did make a much better movie than the sequel turned out to be. I was shocked when they killed Johnny Cage at the start of the sequel and it just got worse from there.

Looking at top 20 movies in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 only 2 movies have jumped 200% on Friday after President's day.

In 2013 the biggest Friday jump was 187%

http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2013-02-22

In 2012 the biggest jump was 155%

http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2012-02-24

In 2011, god help me, Beiber(wtf) and Big Mommas(double wtf?) jumped more than 200% on Friday

http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2011-02-25&p=.htm

In 2010 the biggest jump was 180%

http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2010-02-19

So a 259% jump for Lego with the big numbers it's posting looks suspicious.

I loved both Event Horizon and Mortal Kombat. For very different reasons obviously. But I'm a fan of both.

Mortal Kombat had my favorite movie theater experiences of all time. We're just sitting there, watching the movie and having fun, and then we get to the scene where Scorpion and Sub-Zero both show up on the boat, and this little 10-12 year old kid in front of us exclaims loudly and worriedly, but in a slow manner "ohhh shhittt".

To this day, nearly 20 years later, my one friend and I will still say that to each other, and we'll know exactly what we're talking about, and just be incredibly amused.

Yeah it just seems really iffy.  10-15% drop from an inflated 3-day last week is close to unprecedented.  Not even Titanic pulled that off from President's Day weekend.

I probably shouldn't say anything about EVENT HORIZON or MORTAL KOMBAT.

When Mortal Kombat came out, a friend of mine raved that it was the most awesome movie he'd ever seen.  And, eh, it was pretty fun as a one-and-done effort. But after Resident Evil, I've basically had this sense every time I've seen one of WS Anderson's films of "I don't know why I'm going to see this, I'm going to be disappointed" and, yup, totally disappointed.

The one good thing I can say about Event Horizon is that because he did that, he didn't end up directing X-Men. Dodged a bullet there.
