Families basically have been waiting all summer to spend their money.

The only question is why did they skip How to Train Your Dragon 2.

I dont have the energy to care enough about this conundrum anymore.

I refer you to Spaghetti's post a couple pages back.

Just as an aside, so this is what happens when you have a popular franchise 20+ years old (but that never really died and lived on in other formats) resurrected in a new movie.

All you SW doubters... does the TMNT result make you rethink your low-end guesses? Because SW is TMNT on steroids. Lots and lots of steroids.

I think the SW doubters are just the young pups. No way anyone who lived through TPM hype would seriously doubt that SW7 will be enormous

Yeah. That's what I was thinking too. Good hold but not the outstanding hold a lot were hoping for. People were really underestimating the popularity of TMNT. I'm glad Guardians was able to do what it did in the face of the competition though some didn't think there would be any.

TMNT has their loyal following and some have pointed out their still very popular in the tv shows.  Also, the big nostalgia factor.  There were a lot of adults streaming out talking about Shredder and the Turtles

And for that derailment last night   Well the two biggest movies this weekend are nostalgic.  GotG is like a throwback 80's Space Opera filled with 70's 80's music.

This weekend makes me wonder how Power Rangers will do.

Also, will Hollywood be tempted into doing a Thundercats movie.

Seems like a no-brainer considering Thundercats has a concept similar to Avatar and the nostalgia of Transformers.

LOL I think even with the throwback music to call guardians nostalgic is a stretch.
