Blankments GOTG over Apes club is looking like an even bigger victory now. I remember when some people thought that Apes was going to save the summer. In actuality, it opened solidly, but will finish below Maleficent.

While true, it still had a fine run. But, as Baumer said, died rather quickly after incredibly solid opening 10 days.

I think that should be reason enough for the estimates...

http://www.boxoffice.com/latest-news/2014-08-27-global-guardians-of-the-galaxy-eclipses-500-million-worldwide-with-key-markets-yet-to-release

The official press release from Disney:

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy crossed $500 million at the worldwide box office yesterday. The film has earned $255.2 million to date domestically, and along with Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Maleficent, Disney has released 3 of the top 5 domestic films of 2014. Internationally, Guardians of the Galaxy has earned $245.3 million with several key markets yet to open, including Germany, Italy, Japan and China.Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel's 10th release and 10th straight #1 opening, opened on August 1 and set the record for the biggest August domestic opening of all time by earning $94.3 million. This past weekend, the film reclaimed the top spot at the box office in its fourth week of release and became the highest-grossing summer release in the US this year. This success extends beyond the box office, as the soundtrack for the film, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Vol. 1, spent two straight weeks at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart. Marvel's next release is Avengers: Age of Ultron, opening on May 1, 2015.

Apes died.

It's a shame.  It seemed to be a fairly solid film.  I still haven't seen it myself, but hopefully I'll catch it before the end of its theatrical run.

Damn, those are some huge Tuesday jumps.

Monday's drops & Tuesday's increases were bigger than expected probably because of the Emmys on Monday Night.

Ah, good call. Thanks for the explanation.

The Emmys drew a 4.2 rating on Monday night, less than the average rating of 8 weekly TV shows last season.  If the Emmys were truly a factor, than Big Bang Theory should be destroying movie grosses on Thursday nights, when it draws a 6.2 rating each week from the prime movie-going audience.
