You know it's funny* what lighting can do for an outfit.  Not only do all of those recent set pictures of Supes suit look good, they look appropriate.  The suit just seems to fit with the mood/ambience that Gunn seems to be aiming for here.

* I.e. how it's supposed to work.

 

Just like how Synder's Supes suit was more suited for the type of look he was going for, with more muted colors and a bit of a harder edge.

 

Now all of this stuff is around the edges as one can only do so much with lighting and color grading. But sometimes, if not often times, one really does need to look at how things fit into an overall picture before coming to a judgement about how something will work or not work.

domestically speaking depending on how the rest of the year goes I wonder if modern audiences will accept a wholesome uplifting Superman movie about "being better"

For people complaining about the suit, Christopher Reeve’s suit was just flimsy fabric but looked perfect in the films. This is looking great so far.

 

It doesn’t need to be some textured bullet proof armour or whatever, his skin is literally bullet proof.
