This is what happens when almost all the nominated movies are ones which the general public by and large hasn't watched. American Sniper has made almost 3 times as much as all the other nominees combined.

That's on the Academy for nominating so much unpopular dreck. They even filled the extra BP slots supposedly added so that more accessible films could get nommed with even more low-grossing artsy movies. The ratings will hopefully suffer for it.

Definitely true. I don't want to use the word "Oscar-bait" but there are much more niche films this year than in most other years. The most mainstream one is Sniper I guess, and Interstellar even if it only got a couple of noms.

 

 

Oscars are more a distraction for antics and what dresses are worn..

 

Unless the winning film is something special people pay little attention to it.
