I so agree with this, the double standard with violence/ sex is laughable.

People don t realize it.

It s like Wolf of Wall Street last year that offended a lot of people/ critics because you saw debauchery/ orgies in the film so people were saying the movie glorified that lifestyle bullshit.

Fuck this, Goodfellas and Casino and some other gangsters movies are considered modern masterpieces and all the " heroes" of these films do way worse shit than anything you see in Wolf of wall street or fifty shades. Did Scorcese glorify the incredible brutality of the Goodfellas/ Casino characters ?

But as you say, violence gets a free pass.

The moment sex is involved, everyone looses their minds.

You can turn on the tv at any time and every cop show involves gruesome murders and serial killers and everyone is fine with that.

Hypocrites in deed.

And if tHe books are as bad and lousy written as some say and are about abuse, why they were so goddamn succesful then ? I think some people have trouble understanding the mere concept of fantasy ...

Well.... we live in a world where Michael Bay is a successful filmmaker, and the TRANSFORMERS movies make bank without being qualitatively "good" films. My opinion, of course. They're fun, disposable things, nothing more or less. Same with 50 Shades. Lots of people read them, lots of other people hate them. I tried giving it a fair shake, like a piece of sexy fluff. The writing was too atrocious for me to continue. But it is what it is.

I mean, I kind of find it funny that people are bagging on people for calling the writing bad too. I don't understand what's so wrong about having that opinion. Badly done violence sucks, badly done sex also sucks.

How are the Transformers films not quality?  That might your opinion but it is obviously not shared by most.  So just because you have an opinion, don't pretend it is shared by all.

Still doesnt justify it? Yes violence should be scrutinized too, but you cant say "theres alot violence and gore, so sex and rape is okay too, just to be fair."

The difference is one is consensual and one isn't.  If someone chooses to be dominated in sex, that's their choice.  No one chooses to have their head crushed in a vice.

Also props to Eastwood/Cooper/WB on American Sniper crossing $300 million this weekend. Hopefully it can leg it out to $350 million. Unless it just falls off a cliff though it will beat Mockingjay at the least.

Next weekend should also have a good hold because of the Oscars. After that weekend, it's a mistery, because it won't win BP. Anyways, 340M is the floor

Not what Im saying, Im saying they both can be bad, but dont need to be compared to justify. What about profanity? And abusive drug use? All should be looked at, but you shouldnt use violence as an excuse to justify something else. You can say "people do this in real life" or "sex is natural" or "its not graphic" etc, just like you can say "he said the F word out of anger, its harmless, kids say it at school", but I dont see the point in comparing. "We can chop off heads, but cant show someone getting head? Not fair!" And im speaking in general, not about 50 Shades.

If theres anyone you want to pick a bone with, it should be the MPAA. They, and to an extent the FCC, is the reason these things are the way they are. And even if they were more lax, Im not sure how much we wouldve seen in Shades anyway. I cant imagine pulling out tampons and visible "i feel it in the back of the throat" etc. on the big mainstream screen. Even Cinemax doesnt go that far and thats in peoples private homes. It is kinda weird that parents are afraid of their kid seeing titties, but not really a sword throught the chest, but I mean thats just how its gotten.

Biggest OW in Portugal since November of 2012. And it doesn't seem to be slowing down. Shows are completely packed everywhere again today. School holidays are boosting it.

Happy for 2015 and Fifty Shades! My optimistic goal for 50 Shades was $120 but ultimately I just wanted a total near $100 and for it to take the February record. New records every month! Gonna slow down again for a bit until Cinderella and Insurgent come in March and then we should have a new record with Furious 7 in April!
