Weekend Estimates: Insurgent 54m | Cinderella $34.5m pg 29

Recommended Posts

Boxoffice includes estimated domestic marketing.

So the DOM marketing was only 45M? That is ridiculously low for a tentpole.

In other news, Focus is already at 120m WW and it still has Spain, Japan and France to open (plus possibly China). It will likely finish around 170m on a 50m budget.

Why do some consider Insurgent a disappointment? It made almost as much as its predecessor over the first weekend. For a sequel to a movie which didn't necessarily kill it with the critics, that's pretty good.

I think that's quite a lot. Usually studios spend 50% of the production budget on marketing so if a film costs 100m to make, you add 50 mil for marketing for a total of 150m.

45m seems quite expensive seeing as they still had to market this to overseas audiences.

Wasn't there an article at screendaily last summer or so that included something (or added some details to another article at that time?) about Disney's markting being less expensive as usual for the business for their in-house using of marketing possibilities?

Not sure... might have been shortly after / around the release of Lucy, as I can remember that title also being listed in said article

Really not sure about the text, but some marketing cost's examples were really unexpected, that I remember

The Hunger Games films have all had their marketing budgets around that price tag as well.

Lionsgate like to spend as little as possible with their films :|
