Tuesday Actuals: Jurassic World - 13.13M | Inside Out 13.04M

Recommended Posts

With how much money JW has made already, I wouldn't be shocked if some of JW's money was 'fudged' over to Ted 2's OW to ensure it opens bigger than the original.

Even after two weeks of Universal avoiding fudging to the point of giving up headlines, people still jump to fudging.

As if Universal cares more about giving Ted a few more OW millions than they do about their biggest 2015 movie breaking records.

Ted 2 is from Universal and also targets JW's demo more than IO's (college kids/older adults). Inside Out and Ted 2 couldn't be further apart in terms of demographics.

JP4 is a four quadrant movie, meaning it appeals strongly to both Pixar's demographics and Ted's demographics.

I wonder if Universal will pair Ted and JW at double features this weekend, could goose the box office take of both movies easily. Do double features run 2 different rating movies? I guess as long as they aren't completely incompatible like 50SOG and The Spongebob Movie being run together or something.

I read a post that said they're doing exactly this.

You're right. I was just hoping Minions could boost JP4 later in its run, but Ted 2 could definitely help JP4 this weekend with those drive-in double features. JP4 definitely could help Ted 2 in the same regard. Not very often a movie has enough staying power to make over $50m in the third weekend, so that is bound to help Ted.

Tell that to the people who were laughing like crazy during a trailer... before JW/IO - two massive breakouts. Awareness for Minions is sky-high. Similar to Ted 2 (trailers attached to most JW showings)

Little kids have nothing to go see until September 25th once Minions comes out. Shaun + Underdogs should combine to $15-20 million DOM, so not really competition. MI5 will have to compete with Ant-Man, Pixels, Minions (takes away some teens), F4, and UNCLE. Minions only has IO and Pixels to a lesser degree.

Minions isn't going to have MI5's $65-75 million OW  way too much going for it. That would be the underperformance of the summer. And likely would mean a 3.5x-4x so it would still do $250-300 million. More than MI5's likely $200-220 million DOM.

Underdogs is going to be this year's Epic. No way it only hits 20m.

No way. What a horrific prediction.

You've had a lot of these wildly unreasonable predictions over the years though.

Underdogs is a dump delayed, what two years now?

Please explain Pitch Perfect 2's hold on JW's OW then. That was a blatant fudge.

They're called double features.

Expect the same this week for Ted 2 and JW.

It's not fudge if people actually go see both movies, you know.
