Not sure it's cause and effect..

However since the leaked photo issue Jlaw popularity has lessen.

Perhaps it was simply Jlaw hit a peak after the success of her Oscars and CF

But I don't her career is going higher at the current moment...just staying at a high level.

And her recent bashing of Christians and Republicans could also have hurt the box office at the margins.

It's interesting, too, that there have been some blind items recently about an actress who has really let stardom go to her head and many of the guesses are Jennifer Lawrence. From what I've been told by someone in the catering business who deals extensively with the entertainment industry, the JLaw who made Winter's Bone was a completely different person than who she is now, and the change is not for the better.

So this guy in the catering business knows personally that JLaw has changed for the worse.

Are you sure you aren't selling baloney?

Get it? Catering, baloney?

Well no shit she's a completely different person now than she was circa Winter's Bone. If you had asked anyone just 5 years ago who Jennifer Lawrence was, the natural response would've been, "who?"

Could it just be that the relentless young adult adaption cycle is finally starting to get to people?  We've had nearly as many of these as superhero films the past few years.

Maybe the fact that there are now two other ongoing YA franchises have made the market feel somewhat saturated. The young adult adaptation genre between the first Hunger Games and Divergent was littered with nothing but miserable flops (Beautiful Creatures, The Host, The Mortal Instruments, Vampire Academy).

Probably more a combination of MJ1 hurting the series momentum, lackluster/limited advertising, and muted hype due to Star Wars basically blotting out the pop culture sun.

None of the first three are on Netflix. Bad idea

Epix is now with Hulu. Which means The Hunger Games series , Transformers, The Wolf of Wall Street, etc all left Netflix. The deal with Epix and Hulu was made before Mockingjay even showed up on U.S. Netflix.

I don't think people are sick of YA just yet.

Some franchises peak with the second film. The Hunger Games just happens to be one of them.

I don't think that's it, CBMs still do good business and they've sold way more tickets over the same period of time. I think it's just hard to build up a movie as an event in the shadow of Star Wars, plus MJ1 took the wind out of the franchise's sails.

The relentless YA adaptations would definitely be a big issue, if any of them were any kind of big sizable hits. We have Hunger Games which is by far the biggest one, Divergent and Maze Runner which are mid-range performers then we have all the many many flops like Beautiful Creatures, Vampire Academy, Mortal Instruments etc. which no one ever cared about. Very unlikely that a bevy of flops caused any kind of YA fatigue.

Three franchises with Maze Runner included.  All with major releases last year and this year, all with lower than expected returns at the box office in 2015.
