many many flop/disappointments

I can't name any other movies that really had high expectations and then flopped other than F4 and Pixels. (Maybe Vacation as well?) Most of the other movies deemed "flop" on here either did well but not to absurdly high expectations, or were never expected to do well to begin with. I actually thought Genisys, Tomorrowland, and Ted 2 would do worse than they actually did.

I meant in general: look at October.

Pretty much. The ad campaign was largely muted and unpersuasive.

It has certainly been unpersuasive, but it has not been anywhere near muted. They have spent nearly $20,000,000 on television advertising alone, and it has even been marketed through shows (for instance, a whole episode of Lip Sync Battle centered around it).

How the hell are dinosaurs a gimmick?

I think the word Water wants to use is "hook" instead of "gimmick". In that sense, yeah I can see how Mockingjay Pt. 1 had the least audience-friendly hook among the 300M club.

Still though, it was the third instalment of a successful franchise. Isn't that a hook in itself?

Cause he's gone full looney mode

And if somehow the number goes below $47m when the new estimates or rth posts, oh boy.

water is just angry about MJ2's number, he completely lost it. Ignore him

As for Deadline's forecasts, 104m for MJ2 is terribly low, how could a finale be so far behind the previous installment? Spectre could even miss the 200m bandwagon

Spectre doing 200m was a pipedream after OW, it was the second weekend hold which gave some hope...now it looks to fall behind M:I-5...

Not to keep piling on, but it's almost unfathomable how in only 3 and a half years it could go from its first movie doing $150m ow to its 4th and final movie only doing $100m...are there any other examples of this?? Same series in such a short time having such a fall off?

We have had a huge year with Jurassic World, Minions or Inside out. I find a bit logical a huge flop like this. Every year has their successes and their failures (if we can call a failure a $700m grosser half book). And fans can always blame certain film that will come within a month...

Anyway, I would had never imagined that MJ2 could make less than $300m
