Agreed unless James comes up with some new super gimmick.

The reason I want TFA to destroy the record is because it might bring back practical effects in the way that Avatar popularized 3D. It would also be awesome if other studios and film makers followed what Disney did with the marketing here (which is a huge reason for its success). Like stop showing the whole movie in the trailer and TV spots. Leave some mystery.

I remember MI: Ghost Protocol literally showed everything. And that seems to be the case with a lot of big blockbusters lately.

The status quo will not change.

Doing what Avatar did is way more impressive than TFA, which, without the SW brand, would be just another space adventure.

Yes Star Wars 1977 just magically became a hit by the grace of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

A gimmick doesn't give you those holds and that bo run.

Yeah, you all fail.

You tried though.

Don't forget the Blu-Ray sales. When Avatar 2 comes out and casually goes about destroying records like the first, I'm sure some excuse or ten will be made.

Cameron developed new technology for the industry in making Avatar, it was a massive gamble unlike SW7 which was about as clear of a slam dunk as you can get.

Avatar, despite being the highest grossing film of all time, didn't really seem to enter the popular culture. Nobody really talks about its world or characters.

Nobody remembers Avatar is a thing that exists. Nobody cares.
