The thing is getting so much repeat business. All my co workers were talking about how many times they had each seen SW. (Average was 2-3 some had seen it 4 times) all have plans to continue seeing it. Nuts...

Unsurprisingly, that's what it takes to become the highest grossing movie of all time.

Which it will have domestically. Worldwide though... that's a whole other story.

According to my calculations it has a 33.33%(repeating of course) chance of becoming the WW champ as well.  I think it can get there.

The movie was only good enough to see once for me, but I'm glad it's getting good business.

Off topic, but is anyone else having the problem of only being able to view one page in a given thread, and accessing any other page gives you a blank page? It's really irritating and hindering my enjoyment of this site.

That will take a lot IMO. After this weekend it will be at $750 million. Avatar after this weekend did another $400 million. Let's say TFA can match that, we're at $1.15 billion domestic. OS is going about 10% ahead of domestic right now minus China. If that holds up we're at $1.265 OS. China is a wildcard but most estimates seem to put it at $150-$200 million. With all that we're at roughly $2.6 billion. It would still need to find another $200 million somewhere. Maybe China will explode much higher than expectations, but I think the worldwide record is going to fall about 10-15% short.

Anyway, I think we can all conclude that this movie has some real legs, even if these are the holidays, a movie of this magnitude with such staying power has never been seen before.

Just for this fact alone it's worth it to follow its progress.

That's way too optimistic.

I'm thinking

Fri : 38m (+65%)

Sat: 38m (--)

Sun: 24m (-37%)

Wknd: 100m

How is it too optimistic?  It's not staying flat Saturday.....it'll jump by at least 3% imo.

$95-$105 million is the target. Under that would be viewed as a bad hold based on the first 4 days of the week. Anything over that would be gravy on the train to $1 billion :)

i don't think anything is going to be considered a bad hold this weekend.  It's cruising past Avatar on Tuesday at the latest.  I think regardless of what it makes this weekend, it will be viewed as anything but bad.

RTH gave us 28m for his Wed estimate and it ended being 28.08

So, this could go up a little with official estimates

Doesn't matter, the most important thing is 23mln are better than 18mln someone wrote about [emoji1] [emoji1] [emoji1]

I wish I could believe you wise one! But after the Great Forum Collapse of Last Sunday, I believe anything that starts with an 8 or less this weekend causes widespread pandemonium! :D

I've seen it 5X and I could go right now and buy a very good bootlegged copy for $5.00.

But I won't.  I will go to the theater probably another 3-5X and plop down the $12 each time....it's that damn good.

Saturday will only jump if the Friday increase is a bit muted. I see these scenarios:

Fri: 34  sat: 36

Fri: 36  sat: 37 (Low end - 96M weekend)

Fri: 38  sat: 38 (Mid range - 100M weekend)

Fri: 40  sat: 39 (High End - 104M weekend)

Fri: 42  sat: 40

The drop has more to do with the fact that this year might be a little bit different than 2009, or the demographic is a little bit different than Avatar's. Friday jump could be muted.

Agree.
