Weekend Actuals: The Force Awakens - 90.2M !!!

If TFA does follow RotK it would make $56.13m on the week of Jan 4-Jan 10 with a $5.7m Monday, and a $36.4m weekend*

I think TFA will be much higher then those numbers, putting it on a path to $1B+ potentially threatening Jaws adjusted.

* These calculations were based on the day, week, and weekends percentage of gross to date

I think that's a weird way of doing it. Rather, taking the week-to-week decline / daily pattern of ROTK:

$25m (mon-thu) + $45m (fri-sun)

Still believe TFA will do a little bit better than that.

You can be a Star Wars nut and be 6 or 100, doesn't TFA prove that? Haha.

Imagine you argued with morons for months on end who insisted that holiday shopping would mean TFA couldn't even make $150M OW, or that Star Wars isn't that big anymore so the ceiling is $500M tops. That was my reality. Here's, for instance, part of that: http://boards.theforce.net/threads/episode-vii-box-office-discussion.50024582/page-191

So, yeah, am I happy to be right? You bet I am. I'm happy that the dozens of morons I argued with even among my own fan base were completely wrong the entire time, just like I told them they were then. They were wrong then, they were wrong when the movie opened, and when you are wrong you should know it and should admit it. That's part of being an adult. If I was wrong, I'd still keep posting just like I have for 16 years on that forum (!) and say, gee, guess you guys were right, Star Wars really isn't that popular anymore.

But you better believe it's just like sports. If you sit there and knock my team and talk trash for months, when my team tramples you, you're going to hear about it. It's time to "pay up," at that point. That's what makes the months of annoyance worthwhile, when you can finally say, "I was right, you were wrong, and I told you so." I don't know what is sweeter than that, really. Nothing I can imagine.

I'm pretty sure this thread hasn't been working into the direction mods hoped, and I'm also sure that it's gonna take a LONG time before that thread really functions like it's supposed to do.

Please do it where ppl gave reason to you to react that way (if you are not able to react in another way), but not here, where we discuss BO's per day.

I am all for communication, meeting new ppl, but please each theme at it approbiate place.

General speaking:

a lot here never acted that way and we still have to literally suffer through all of you (the extreme 'fans') poking at each other or whatever. The most here (in my impression) are simply not interested in that - but have to literally shovel / work through the pages to find the news / datas they are coming for, hope to find in this explicit thread type.

Thanks, I love being called young! LOL I usually get called old :P

Joy finished way better than it started. First hour was like a D-. Last hour was like a B to B+, averages to a solid C+ I would say. Not a bad movie actually!

That's exactly how I felt.  Once Cooper shows up , it gets much better.

These numbers will probably be closer to the actuals.  My method is more of tracking a realistic minimum for the film and the numbers to hit that minimum ($966m).

Hey Baumer, not sure if this is a stupid request, but could you change your avatar to Boba Fett? Kinda weird to have a Yoda avatar with the screenname being Baumer Fett.

Dude, part of being an adult also means taking stuff like this not too seriously.

One more IMHO either not good researched or consciously teaked article about the money the top 5 and the rest of the business earned.

And IMHO a few rather specificly cut/presented details, that imply something so not really generally counting

like... bad quality of some sequlas, why some of the big budgets bombed (as in there is a reason why certain movies didn't click,...) and the count of over $350m in 2014 = 1x does enhance the count of $100m-$350m in comparison to 2015 = why not count for that detail simply all starting with $100m (still less, but not as much as the article implies).

And why is $100m a limit? Isn't the budget too a bit important?

Plus what's with movies getting also produced in a way the OS or 'specialised-interest- groups ... gets interested too? Not all distributer even still spending that much money on a movie they know will get not that much money in the US, but hope for OS?

Or distributer also started to react to the marcet and releasing movies in certain areas = not counted. Or...

Not really important, more a slight annoyance about this kind of articles again getting 'in'. Not saying all is wrong

Hollywood’s Banner Year at the Box Office Masks a Procession of Flops

Megahits like ‘Star Wars’ pushed total ticket sales to a record in 2015, but many films struggled to find an audience

this is definitely a year of have and have nots. There were a few enormous hits that masked a litany of bombs and disappointments. Its not good news if u want to tell a human (character driven) story.  those films are basically going the way of the dinosaur and I don't mean the Jurassic Park kind. But if you want to tell a comic book story or Star Wars story or anything to do with giant spectacles then the big screen is where you make your money.

Did you guys know that Cameron loves Star Wars? And Lucas and Cameron are buds. So if they can get along maybe we should as well lol seriously this stuff is just pointless banter. It's very exciting for those of us you just love seeing records fall, to see Star Wars soar past avatar by about a quarter of a billion dollars but we all know that avatar is the worldwide king. So I don't see any point in this dick measuring stuff back and forth. Plus tele has already said to let it go. So let it go.

HAHAHA James Cameron, a guy, a director, is bigger than Star Wars. Yeah ok buddy. I see why people here call you a troll. That's not even based on any relevant facts. The Star Wars franchise will be around long after Cameron is dead, because it's bigger than any one man. As it just proved.

And Avatar held #1 for 8 years? Aren't you an Avatar fanboy? It's 2016. It took the crown in 2010. That's 6 years dude. Not 8.

If you think Avatar 2 even has a snowball's chance in hell of passing TFA, you're seriously delusional, but it makes for good entertainment.

No, YOU'RE  the one that's delusional. I think if this run has taught us anything, it's don't get comfortable with your movie being top dog. Records are made to be broken. There's already a movie that surpassed TFA, it's called Avatar. 2.8 billion worldwide is something TFA will not see. You don't know how successful Avatar 2 will be. Not everyone was jaded against it like you.

So we have record ticket sales and record total gross, and yet 'competition means no one goes to the cinema any more'.. Hmm..

The real reason (or at least a larger part of the reason than most will admit) is what I always suspected, too much crap, not enough quality, thats why movies cant match ticket sales of the big 70s movies any more. Reboots and sequels are the problem.

Okay we all know avatar is the King worldwide and Star Wars is the Kings domestically. There's anything more really need to be said? Guys let this go. I don't want to see anybody get suspended for a day or week or anything. There have been clear instructions that if you want to discuss this stuff go to the Speak Easy and go into the thread that our fearless leader created. I cannot remove these posts as I'm on my phone right now. Just let the stuff go guys

I made a chart last night, you know exerting effort to compile numbers etc. When I was about to post it here, the thread got locked.

I don't want to make another chart now because I have a feeling this will get locked again.

Have some respect to those who want to discuss pure numbers and spare this thread from your shit.

It's 2016. Nothing has changed. It has probably become worse.

Far from it, still the biggest movie ever worldwide. Get over the beating Avatar obsession. ...

1. Did you even read the mod's posts saying to stop with the comparisons? Including Tele creating an own thread in the Speaksay Forum (the only place a thread like that has a home) for that ... 'mine is bigger' theater?

2. You did have to pull a post 8 hours old post for saying something all already know (maybe even from before tha last hint to stop with that bickering)? Do you expect that to be helpful to get those kind of conversation finally out of here?

3. You are writing in the DOMESTIC forum, wiithin the thread for DOMESTIC BO. Hint enough?

4. you are here a member since 21 December 2015

Out of the 81 posts you wrote I can't remember to have seen one that wasn't :knight: or  or :poke: .

But I only read the ones written in the BO threads, maybe you are able to write friendly to people with another POV in other threads? Posts to people agreeing to your POV do not really count for that hint, in case there are some.
