Wrong thread dude but yeah... if you can separate your emotions (if that's at all possible) you realize how phenomenal of a film it is. Spielberg & the cast make an imprint that is truly unforgettable.

Yeah, I did, and it's funny it only took me two weeks to decide that your posts were among my least favorite on the forum. The general attitude and negativity is really something I don't respect or care for, so you could have been here for 15 years and I wouldn't care. How's that for joining two weeks ago? Your argumentative "skills" are pretty clearly lacking, too, because we call this in philosophy an "ad hominem" attack where you have nothing to say about the points being raised, just about the person. So I joined two weeks ago, I'm wrong? You are right, this IS run of the mill box office discussion, we're NOT talking about a film that's about to become the all-time highest grossing movie in North American box office history. Gee, you ARE inside of the mind of Rth and know exactly what he will or won't do, and I'm sure that being a huge fan of the box office, he probably doesn't care or even much notice that TFA is about to break the record and that's kind of a big deal. I'm sure it couldn't possibly be the case that it MIGHT be of box office interest and historical significance which day TFA beats Avatar to take the throne. I'm also sure everyone loves your condescending tone. It does you a lot of favors.

TFA hasn't followed Avatar exactly, but more often than not it's been close. Looking back on the Sunday drop in 2009, Avatar was the only one in the top 10 not to have the big 40%+ drop. This time TFA was. Looking at it as Monday to Monday drop, down 72% would put about $8.8m. At some point TFA will probably fall behind Avatar in the dailies just hope it no so soon. My point about you being on here two weeks is your sample size is 100% being on here during the holidays & 0% the rest of the year when normally we don't get numbers until actuals the following day. I really don't care if you like the truth or not. Edited January 5, 2016 by GiantCALBears
JonathanLB
I wouldn't expect that Rth sits here and gives updates generally speaking during the week or even a slow weekend lol. I lurked long enough to know that. But what some are saying is it could happen, it might not, by the nature of this being a very special event about to occur. Nobody said they expect Rth to do so I don't think. People were just saying, hey, he could because of how close the film is to beating Avatar. That was really all.
terrestrial
Pamela McClintock @PamelaDayM And on the 17th day there was no #StarWars box office story from me. The Force sleeps (or at least dozes).

terrestrial
Men’s rights activists declare victory over Star Wars By Mike Vago@mikevago Jan 4, 2016 5:44 PM Amid the box office records and critical praise heaped on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a few hyper-sensitive souls may have noticed a very small disturbance in the Force, as if dozens of voices cried out in terror, and were suddenly ignored. You see, while director J.J. Abrams has been praised for imagining a galaxy where the Force flows through all living things, not everyone sees it that way. In advance of the film’s release, the same “men’s rights activists” who took to the internet to complain about Mad Max: Fury Road took to the internet to complain that a series that gave women not named Leia only 63 seconds of dialogue across its first three movies was over-representing women. Horrified by the thought of a girl touching a lightsaber, MRAs attempted to organize a boycott of The Force Awakens, claiming that a film that acknowledges that women and people of color exist and can act in movies amounts to “SJW Propaganda.” And now, the results of that boycott are in, and the MRAs have declared victory. Return Of Kings, “a blog for heterosexual, masculine men” upset that their movie about space wizards has a girl in it, is estimating that The Force Awakens “lost $4.2 million because of our reporting.” (Forbes disagrees with this assertion, not that it matters to the Return Of Kings faithful.) They arrived at this number by extrapolating the results of a 565-person informal poll by their site’s roughly estimated monthly users, multiplied by average ticket price. It’s unimpeachably sound science, just like the sound TIE fighters make in space. So, to recap, a film that raked in a billion dollars worldwide in just 12 days and will most likely be the highest-grossing film of all time by the time you read this could have possibly made $1.004 billion if it hadn’t had a female lead. And while it’s unlikely Disney will make any changes to the series as a result, there’s little doubt that the MRAs will soldier on, like Stormtroopers taking shot after shot at Rey without ever hitting the mark.
seduh
amazing third weekend for TFA, the biggest January weekend ever (and it's on it's THIRD weekend). It had a veru good Sunday hold, I think a finish near $950 is very likely with slim chances to 1 billion.
terrestrial
As it is so slow... @druv10 Maul just posted this at the Japan thread: The seventh Star Wars entry sold 521,980 tickets over its third weekend, up 17% over last weekend. And after three weeks in release, it's sold 4.15 million admissions. Only as an example how in another country the market can behave in another way than dom. Curious to observe if Japan will make it's reputation for legginess come true...
