Monday Numbers: 15.05 M BVS | About a 55% drop, better than F7 Easter Monday. EPIC CJohn meltdown starts Page 18.

If the drop tomorrow are over 10% i wont even bother reading the daily thread if a 15 mill+ number gives birth to 14 pages of crap like we seen today

Why are some people choosing to ignore that studios get around half of the movie's bo earnings ? So when BvS reaches around 900 million $ , WB will get half of that . How it will be hugely profitable, from its theatrical release, is a mystery to me . The fact that you have to resort to home video sales, tv rights and ..,toys to justify this movie as a financial success speaks volumes .

This is the case for almost every movie out there. There's no "resorting" to anything -- studios make movies in order to generate revenue from a number of sources. Theatrical is the most visible, but studios value every single revenue stream out there, and in fact that's how they choose which movies to greenlight and which ones not to.

Should they ignore money from certain foreign territories and not others? Should we consider a movie a failure because it didn't do well in one market (even if it did very well in all markets).

I appreciate everyone has feelings about this movie, but can we at least base arguments on reality and not some sort of weird, trumped-up fan emotion?

It doesn't matter what the drop is, we will get pages upon pages of nonsense anyway.

Futurist s hot take :

Sad Affleck's Video has 19m views.

You know that feeling when you drive by a car accident but you can't help but look ?

People just want to know why Batfleck is so sad.

Morbid curiosity.

It s human nature.

Grim's link (a couple of pages back) with Deadline's very rough approximations on profitability should end that particular discussion once and for all. The movie's gonna clear a couple hundred million in profit (after all expenses are accounted for). DHD's numbers may not be exact (they don't have access to any line item budget or anything), and obviously they're projecting many numbers, but their estimates should be way better than any of ours, especially when it comes to all the ancillary costs and revenues that we basically just wildly guess at.

This is gonna be a major success for WB and DC, financially. Maybe not the absolute pinnacle of success that they might've gotten with universal acclaim, but an expensive blockbuster turning a couple hundred million in profit is nothing to sneer at either. (Seriously, look at DHD's profitability breakdowns over the last couple of years to see how few movies reach that mark).

This movie is going to make a profit? WB must be hella pissed they can't get away with not paying royalties under the excuse that the movie didn't make a profit.

It won't make a "profit", it'll just make a profit. :P

So I guess we'll have to hear that 350-400 m is "disappointing" now, eh?

Kinda makes me think life is fair.    One group of fanboys pulls that trick on the movie favored by a different group of fanboys...then a year or so later get the same thing about their movie.    Everything evens out in the end.

It's never made sense to me that these studios are losing money unless the movies does insane numbers relative to budget....how would they stay in business?

-----------------------------

Interesting statement from this review video I just watched.   Umberto Gonzalez shoots down the idea that WB would replace Snyder.    He claims that WB is a "takeover target right now" and won't postpone JL or replace Snyder because it would have a negative effect on stock prices.    First I've heard about that sort of thing.

Starts about 35:10...careful if you are avoiding spoilers:

Its sad how much lack of depth the Box office has once you get past the top 2 films... slightly normal drops and we would have had only 2 (if that) films over 1m.... and would have been hard pressed for a top 10 over 100k.... only going to get worse as April progresses.

All I know is, this movie is going to make a very nice profit for WB.

Question is: is it enough?

This and Fantastic Beasts was supposed to be the holy grail saving WB from two consecutively poor years under Tsujiwara.

WB posted $12 billion in revenue in 2015. After operating costs, WB was left with more than $1 billion in profit. This and Suicide Squad and even Fantastic Beasts could have flopped and WB would be fine.

I'm interested, what stand are we making exactly?

I am saying you guys are doing a good job at trying to keep it somewhat civilized on here.

It seems the movie is drawing a unique severity of negativity on this forum.

All I am saying that there is justification for users to be negative on this forum towards this movie and imo it is all not trolling or pointless nonsense.
