To jump in on the whole 'jobs' debate that Tele brought up, I don't think anyone here, when they say they want Snyder taken off JL, is claiming that they specifically want people to lose their jobs (especially lower-ranking ones who are practically blameless). Nobody except a complete sociopath wants that. But that's also an unavoidable side-effect of voting with your wallet. If a company is boycotted because it shows anti-gay/racist views, are we supposed to look down on or judge the boycotters because lower-rank employees will lose their jobs if they succeed? No. Now, obviously, I'm not saying 'Me disliking BvS' is any way on the same level as protesting for Civil/Gay rights, because that's just ridiculous. But I'm pointing out that that sort of thing is an unavoidable part of 'voting with your wallet'. And being able to vote with your wallet is very important in our society, otherwise anyone could shove any kind of cheap, worthless crap your way and you'd have no real way to protest.

Don't get me wrong, I see entirely where you're coming from on this, Tele, and do sympathise with your viewpoint (especially since I know you work in the entertainment industry yourself). But I still have to respectfully disagree. Especially since, at this point, it's largely WB who are to blame for this, for jumping the gun in search of that Avengers money and ordering two new Justice League movies without leaving sufficient time before filming to see how audiences might receive BvS.* It's their own fault and mistake and I don't see why we should have to prop them up for it, just because they put other people's jobs at risk. So basically, even though it's sad that people may lose their jobs, I'll still be happy if it's announced tomorrow that Snyder was being replaced. Not because I'm unsympathetic to those losing their jobs but because that shows that 'voting with your wallet' is still working.

...And also because I want Justice League to be good. But that's my more selfish side talking.

*FYI, for once, I don't blame Snyder (much) on that account. As much as I hate BvS, I don't think for a second that Snyder set out to make a bad movie. Because nobody does. (Except maybe Uwe Boll, but he has some kind of tax dodge thing going so whatever.)

I completely get all this, and maybe even agree with it more than you think. I just think it's a bit unseemly to constantly scream "FUCK SNYDER! FIRE HIM NOW AND STOP THE PROJECT". At the end of the day, each of us want to be entertained by these movies and stories and characters that have meaning to us. But at the same time... they are just movies. WB has been making DC superhero movies since the late 70s and they certainly won't stop now. So, whether it happens sooner or later, there's going to more (even multiple) takes on the greater DC universe, whether Snyder gets to do his JL or not.

Agree. Snyder has shown more depth in his earlier works. Watchmen was great imo. Can't put blame on one person.

Be it director of Casino Royale giving us GL or director of Incredible giving us Tomorrowland or of SM1 giving us SM3.

My franchise really is better than your franchise.

My comment clearly shows how butt hurt I am that you have the audacity to think that. There might even be a statement questioning your sanity and/or calling you a troll.

Sam Raimi makes sense as a hypothetical Snyder replacement until you remember his last CBM was Spidey 3. Puuuuke.

I think he was drunk when he made Spidey 3 -- LOL

I hate the fact that people trash Brett Ratner and Joel Schumacher's entire careers just because they made X3 and Batman Forever/and Robin. They're decent directors, they just make blockbusters that "aren't serious enough".

I like Raimi, but his time has come and passed with comic book movies.

I would love to see Spielberg direct a big comic book movie.

I think that time has passed as well, can't see him getting involved in any of the current franchises.

Pretty sure George must've been hiding in that basement so that he could train singing Haddaway's "What Is Love, Baby Don't Hurt Me" to that girl whenever they met again. Or maybe that Celine Dion Titanic song.

X3 isn't even that bad!

Even back in the day, he never struck me as much of a comic-book guy. He was more into classic action/adventures, a la Bond and those old-school serials.

If you can go 2/3 quality films & 3/3 BO success in a trilogy that's mighty impressive. It's tough to do. Spidey 3 was a lot more (unintentionally) funny than I realized. I laughed at most of the "serious" parts.

Off Topic but kind of tangentially on topic - a fantastic piece with Richard Donner in the HR today

'Superman' Director Richard Donner Tells the Inside Story of the 1978 Superhero Movie

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/features/superman-director-richard-donner-tells-879894

Quote

I [Donner] got a little stoned, smoked some weed, put on the Superman costume. I was in pretty good shape then. It was like elastic. And Tom [Mankiewicz, the eventual writer] pulled up, and I ran across the lawn and Tom turned and looked at me and ran back to his car.

Tom says, “You’re crazy. Get the f— away from me!”

That's amazing!

I think the fact that he is going to work with a rival most of his career in Disney to make IJ5 with an almost needing a cane Harrison Ford (love him but he will be ancient by the time filming wraps on this) tells you a lot about what he's passionate about.

Would anyone be against them shooting JL, holding onto the completed film for a few years and just get a Aquaman and Flash movie out before the 1st Justice League? It would certainly build those characters up rather than throwing them in Justice League literally out of nowhere.

WB would - thats a hell of a lot of money to spend and then sit on. TBH i have very little hope of movies like Aquaman and Flash being particularly succesful. They are kind of coming from a bad place with this as their introduction in the first place and I just cant really see Aquaman being big full stop. DCs solution to him being a pop cultural joke over the past 5 years has been to make him a "total badass" in the comics - hence the Jason Momoa casting - but I dunno, its just not very interesting IMO.

I'm a big comic book fan (more Marvel than DC admitedly) but the idea of going to see 8 origin movies a year between DC and Marvel isn't that appealing. OTOH Marvel seems to be very good at origin stories (with some exceptions their origin films are much better than their sequels) and DC hasnt really shown the bility to get anything right post-Nolan.

When was Disney a rival to Spielberg? (Except when he still owned DreamWorks Animation)

Hell he even produced Roger Rabbit.
