I maybe haven't watched as many films as I should for this list, but I'm a cheapskate who's too self-righteous to pirate stuff.

You're young, you got time. There's a ton of older stuff on Netflix and Hulu, if you have a friend/parent/whoever to share an account with.

I don't have any friends or parents who have accounts there.

Nothing wrong with being a cheapskate. It's called "being frugal", and it's a good skill to have. :)

There's a decent amount of lesser-known/foreign films that are available on YouTube for free, officially.

I absolutely love that movie. It has so much of what I love in comedies: it's not afraid to go completely bonkers, it's immensely quotable, the characters are a riot. It's also a scathing depiction of how sexism is nothing but a mask for male insecurity and their fear of progress/ upstanding of the status quo. I must've seen it over 20 times and I always crack up.

A lot of older movies on these lists, many of which I still need to see, I'm funny about them, it's kind of hard for me to get into them, I usually don't end up hating them, but I watched them hearing they are some of the best films ever and most of the time I'm like that was good but not amazing (It Happened one Night), but then occasionally I'll find one I love like Psycho or Ben-Hur, start getting into them.. and then I watch Vertigo and find it incredibly underwhelming. and thus, sludge through them at a slow pace.

I will say, if things continue to trend the way they are we'll have a nice variety of films on the list.  There's currently some modern blockbusters, some indie films, some classics/oldies, some animation, and so forth.  Also the battle for the number 1 slot is fairly tight between 3 films currently.

Just think in 50 years, people will be saying  the same thing about MCU, Avatar, The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, every best picture winner, ect.

Older films definitely tend to move at slower paces, so if you're to used to modern day fast-paced blockbusters, I can see how they may be underwhelming.  You also have to remember the technology from the time limited what could be done on screen, it was much harder to shoot a thrilling action sequence then than now.

When Star Wars was released it was cinder fast paced and today it is considered slow paced. I am worried what movies 30 years will look like.
