Basically, to me, it goes like this: anybody that calls Batman V Superman a flop has no clue what they're talking about. Critically, it absolutely is a failure, no matter if you like it yourself or not, but commercially, the film has recovered its budget comfortably and broke even (870M WW off a 415M budget w/PTA included), and that, coupled w/the home video sales which may bloom should the R-rated cut be good, means that BVS is making a profit, even if not a particularly big one. John Carter, The Lone Ranger and Battleship are all films that failed to make their budget back, in some cases without even counting advertising costs. That's why those are true, laughable and undefendable flops. BVS? Flop it is not, for sure.

Disappointment is the key word, and a completely different one. And that's exactly what BVS is. Because one wouldn't waste 250M (415M w/PTA) on a film if they weren't expecting it to gross at the very least a billion dollars. One wouldn't put Batman (a billion dollar grosser, and always a big box office star, Nolan or previous incarnations - the Burton movie did over 400M in 1989, for Christ's sake) and Superman (who just came off the 290M+ DOM, 600M+ WW maker Man Of Steel) together w/a touch of Wonder Woman on top and not expect it to be a BO slaughter. But it wasn't.
