MEH-MORIAL DAY WEEKEND BOX OFFICE | Abandon all hope, the box office is dead. 3 day weekend #s X-Men 65M, Alice 28.1M, Angry Birds 18.7M, Civil War 15.1M, Neighbors 9.1M. Bad openings, horrible holdovers.

There's a sequel coming out every weekend for the next 5 weekends  TMNT isn't generating much buzz, wouldn't be surprised if it goes below 50M. Previews start at 5 PM as well, so anything below the first's is a disaster. NYSM2 is currently tracking mid to high-20's but low-20's wouldn't surprise me either. The Conjuring is poised to breakout.

TMNT-- social media buzz seems kind of weak for TMNT. Per box office pro:

" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows doubled its entire like increase for 2016 in the past week thanks to its latest trailer. Buzz has been scant for the film leading up to its release, especially when you consider that the same period before the release of the first film had over 400,000 in new likes. The turtles might be candidates to decline in their second outing for a second time, just as their 1991 sequel did (it declined by 20% over the first film the year before). "

It will take a miracle for Avatar 2 not to drop DOM and WW by at least 50 percent.

Avatar is another movie that benefited greatly from the novelty of 3D and has a sequel that is taking way too long to come out.

IN 99.999999999% of the case i woul be ok with you no question but.......

It's James cameron. Never ever ever ever doubt that man.

Pete's Dragon is a remake to an obscure film from Disney's weird stretch between Uncle Walt's passing and the arrival of Eisner/Katzenberg.

I grew up watching it on The Disney Channel back in the day. But... this isn't something most are going to recognize, so they can't play the nostalgia card like Cinderella and The Jungle Book so successfully. Just an odd pick based on their current criteria. Bomb? Oh... yeah.

I really wish Midnight Special, Sing Street, and Everybody Wants Some would've released semi-wide this month rather than last; there's even less good stuff in theaters now

Like I have to go see Civil War again next Wednesday literally just because there's nothing good out besides it and The Nice Guys

Also, sue me if I wanna see a movie in theaters, Tele. There's a lot more magic in that than just Netflix. Once my work starts up in two weeks, I won't have time much for either so there you go

Probably, I got a free ticket to it thanks to a Red Robin gift card lol. But just this summer DOES look really blah. I feel super indifferent to everything coming out except Bourne and Independence Day which is really really weird for me. Normally I'm excited for everything

Well, the new reported budget is 178M, which seems rather low, but that 234M reported earlier seems way to high.  Without Jackman and the old actors in this taking up the salary, I definitely think it's cheaper than DOFP.  The FC actors signed 3 picture deals, so its not like they are paying JLaw 10+ million.  Oscar shouldn't be making that much either.   The so-called destruction porn isn't even that much, so I don't know where the budget went if it was 220M+.  They filmed in Canada, so should be cheaper as well.

If CW had a 250M budget with RDJ getting 40M, Scarlett getting probably 10M+ and Evans at least 5M, 15M+ for the remaining actors, I think its possible it was this cheap.

They probably renegotiated with Lawrence after the success of THG and her Oscar win. It's possible that she earns 10M. McAvoy and Fassbender probably makes more as well.
