John Wick is one movie I actually really WANT a sequel for, tbh. They did some really cool worldbuilding there, and also, it'll be fun as fuck.

What about the Fast and Furious  8, 9 and 10? And Uni are also talking about FF prequels and spinoff!!!!

Fast and Furious has been going on for 15 years, yet it's only been making more money over the past few years. You wanna know why? Because the franchise re-branded from racing-oriented, to heist-oriented with Fast Five.

Nope. This fall is going to be ruled by Queen Huppert.

How about Transformers? All seem to be love or hate movies.

Nah. They're super inconsistent. 1 is a masterpiece. 2 is an abomination.  3 is pretty good. 4 is pretty bad.

Hopefully, this will incentivize studio executives to hesitate more about sequels and consider them more carefully. Maybe, it can also make the climate more welcoming for original material without franchise potential. Jupiter Ascending and Tomorrowland are the outcomes that studio executives fear the most. But, maybe studio executives would warm to original material without a sky high budget.

Broadly, the risky nature of original material leaves one bind. Some argue that big bets are a viable business strategy for entertainment. So, it is sound to invest a lot in blockbusters/tentpoles to help them fly high. The thing is with original properties, there is potential for them to crash and burn with huge losses. WB over the past few years.

Clearly, though studios have gone too far at this point with the sequels and audiences are getting fed up.

I hope you guys enjoy the (relative) calmness of this weekend thread, because it's going to be trainwreck after trainwreck for these threads until Late August.

James Wan will save us next weekend.

The problem is that most of these movies are so expensive, I really can understand the nervousness of a studio executive green lighting a 100m-150m-200m tentpole from an untested property.

Honestly next weekend's thread could be an all timer. We're going to lose our shit over how well The Conjuring is doing, we'll have hordes of Warcraft fanboys, and we can laugh at NYSM2.

But really, if you were a Paramount executive wouldn't you greenlight a TMNT sequel? I would do it first thing in the Monday morning after the OW (which was what happened lol).

The marketing for this sequel was also SHIT. Re-watch the trailers for the first movie. It were 500 times better.

Unlimited potential. Warcraft fanboys losing their shit and claiming China will be enough and that America has no taste and everyone made up their mind long before watching it. Ethan will suffer at our hands. And we will praise James Wan for saving us.
