Deadpool wasn't a family movie though I'd argue some of the jokes were not aimed at adults. At least it was R and did well. Thats nice.

Well Deadpool isn't a family friendly character in the comics either so at least they stuck to the source material.

You all missing the fucking point, it's not about good vs bad movies.

It's about distinctive vs generic forget-in-a-day movies.

Around 90% of the top 100 WW movies are franchise films.

A major studio will die a quick death without them.

RIP LIONSGATE RIP PARAMOUNT RIP SONY

We all knew it was coming anyway.

That's all a matter of opinion though so I don't think anyone is missing the point. I think plenty of people on here have made the case for films that are both good AND different. While other films that they claimed to be bad were generic to them. Or were bad and distinctive. Just because a film is distinctive doesn't mean it's suddenly a good film people are going to flock to see. Yes people want things that are different but they also want things that are good too. There were various films that I believe did that this summer. However and again like every summer, there are your typical generic films that just aren't good that spoil it.

I feel nothing towards Efron; am I obligated to hate him?

No. I don't hate him but I don't love him either. He's just there. I will not go out of my way to see a film he's in.

I'll assume you're not talking to me since you didn't tag me.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

If you study your history, you will find people like you that whined about this in 1905, 1915, 1925, 1935, 1945, 1955, 1965, 1975, 1985, 1995, 2005, 2015.

Also, GA couldn't care less about this debate, it only interests film nerds.

People just want to have a good time at the movies, to be entertained and they couldn't care less about directors and their pseudo distinctive voice.

No no, I'm talking to the "there's good and bad every summer, so they are wrong" crowd.

Where I expect Dory to land:

Jul 8: 19.2M (12.3M weekdays, 433.7M Total)

Jul 15: 11.5M (6.9M weekdays, 452.1M Total)

Jul 22: 5.8M (3.4M weekdays, 461.3M Total)

Jul 29: 3.8M (2.2M weekdays, 467.3M Total)

Aug 5: 1.9M (1M weekdays, 470.2M Total)

Aug 12: 1.3M (700k weekdays, 472.2M Total)

Final Total: 477M (3.53x)

It's going to need great drops (sub-40) from here on out for 500M.

If Dory fails to clear $500M, a $480M DOM is still a great run.

500 will be nice though.

Didn't know we were discussing what GA cares or not.

Anyway, I'm not surprised, it's a Futurist post after all.
