Weekend #s STB 59.6M, Pets 29.3M, GB and LO 21.6M, IA5 21M

Recommended Posts

Average numbers all around. The only real over performer looks like Lights Out. The next horror film(Don't Breathe)  comes out at the end of August, so it  has time to make all of its money.

Next weekend Bad Moms is the one to watch out for, an undeserved audience  (25+ females) will probably come out in full force.

DORY has held much stronger than expected. Folks were expecting closer to 6. 490 looks possible again - 19.7 away after this weekend if these numbers hold.

Pets as well if these numbers hold could be headed to a very good weekend.

Horrendous for IA5 and fantastic for Lights Out.

Good opening for Star Trek and good holds for Pets and Dory, competition from Scrat was nearly non existant.

Surprisingly good hold for Ghostbusters. 140m DOM likely.

Ice Age bombage is hilarious. They should have ended with the third one and went out on a high note (in my opinion).

Ice Age made roughly our equivalent of 7M today at my theatre, I'll have accruals tomorrow. Lights Out somewhat under performed for the late shows, and did around 6.5M (no Thursday shows so it was a true friday number). However, our market doesn't have usually an upfront rush for horror, for example Insiious 3 did 5.0M and nearly did 20M for the weekend.

Star Trek did around I think 15-16M for true Friday, coupled with 5.2M previews so around 20M OD. Not too bad I guess. Pets just a hair under 10M. Not sure of Ghostbusters exact number, but considering how hard it bombed on opening day (4.4M) it certainly increased today, I think 7M+ if not more. Word of mouth is good.

Seeing Lights Out, it kinda reminded me of The Babadook albeit with the gimmick of the "she gets you in the dark" thing. There are some real great scares, but they aren't as common as in say your average horror movie. The rest of the film is filled with above average acting and a good story.

You could say it's "Lights Out"  for the Ice Age franchise.  :P

It should've been "Lights Out" after the 3rd one. The 4th one was a potential disaster that survived off of the goodwill of the first three.
