i don't even know where people get the "ham" thing about ddl from. i rewatched there will be blood like a month ago. there's like 3 scenes where he's going full on and it's not like it's out of nowhere for the character. i would say his best performance is probably for me age of innocence and that's as subdued as an actor can get. zero "oscar clip" scenes there no yelling no crying no weird actory mannerisms but it's absolutely heart breaking stuff.

I actually think natalie portman is real good in much stuff but NOPE garden state can't be used as a plus for anyone who worked on it. portman especially, mainly due to that she as a character has to adhere to Braff's weird fantasy girl.
