Professor Marston & The Wonder Women | Moved Up to Oct 13 2017 | Sony produced Biopic on Wonder Woman creator | Luke Evans, Rebecca Hall, Bella Heathcote

Recommended Posts

You'd think that in a year in which the top grossing film so far prominently features Luke Evans, and the second top grossing film so far is all about Wonder Woman, this film, as different from those as it is, would elicit more interest from theatre owners, I guess.

Then again, I have no idea how those things work.

I imagine if WB had made this movie they would be pushing this movie way harder and it would be getting way more wide.
It all comes down to how much support and backing a movie has from a big studio.

Disney is the worst when it comes to this since they push small theaters around (Disney would say "Give this small movie a ton of screens or you can't show Star Wars") according to many reports of people that work in a theater. Edited by Mojoguy

One of the producers admitted they rushed it to take advantage of the Wonder Wave, which they still couldn't. lol Annapurna marketing

“It’s hard enough to get a good film made these days and harder still when two of the main characters are women and it is a period piece without A-list stars,” says Terry Leonard, another producer.

Fittingly, it was Wonder Woman herself who saved the day, as Robinson and her team were able to capitalize on the summer blockbuster as long as they got their movie done on time and on a tight budget. “It was ‘pants on fire, we have to do this now for whatever money we can get’,” says Redford, who credits Robinson for being “a warrior” and “making sure that what’s on the page was something we could achieve with what we have”.

Why would you ever say this about your incredibly talented cast, who probably worked for less than they deserved? What a bunch of idiots.

I think they know they're not A-list stars? It's an A+ cast though. :)

Annapurna I guess just doesn't have enough clout. Although the marketing for this and Detroit was so weak.

This film was pretty much intended for limited release on the Art House circuit. Annapurna pretty much make small scale films, and probably has never handled a big release.

Detroit was the first time they distributed their own film.

This is their second.  A 1200 theater opening for this is such a big mistake. They should have opened this limited and expanded wide on WOM and reviews.

If they are portarying this as a true story, then Sony can expect some law suits heading their way.

You've probably seen ads for PROFESSOR MARSTON AND THE WONDER WOMEN, opening in theaters this weekend, purporting to tell the true story behind the man who created Wonder Woman and the women he loved... only there's a problem, it's mostly fiction. In an exclusive interview we're honored to present, we chat with Wonder Woman creator William Moulton Marston's granddaughter Christie Marston to set the record straight on what really happened in their family's history

Christie Marston – This film has no relationship to Wonder Woman, other than using the name to sell to the public. They are riding the coattails of the very (rightfully!) successful Wonder Woman movie – even to the point of copying the promo posters.

Christie Marston – No, there was no contact. In an interview, Angela Robinson said that she made the choice to not talk to anybody because she wanted to use her own ‘interpretation’.

Both the depiction of the family and Wonder Woman’s origins are made up.
