What I find interesting is, any time people say Moana is showing strong legs other posters throw cold water on that premise but so far it has shown great legs. Whether it can continue is another matter but so far legs have been strong.

It's going to have one of the best (or the best?) second weekend post Thanksgiving holds ever for a movie that opened to 30m+. Anyone discrediting its legs right now is full of it.

The most fun I had following box office runs were:

- Frozen's domestic and Japan run

- Inside Out VS Jurassic World VS Minions

- Star Wars Episode 7

- ZOOTOPIA's China, Japan, and domestic runs

- Finding Dory

- The Secret Life of Pets

- Moana (?)

Mine are:

-Avatar (the legs were otherwordly)

-Frozen

-Batman v Superman (just because of how fast it collapsed)

-Zootopia (its domestic legs were also unbelievable)

When The Grand Budapest Hotel and Boyhood became 2 of the 3 biggest award players of 2014 I thought maybe that would teach them a lesson. Silly me.

This November-December, there's no reason Loving, Elle, Manchester, A Monster Calls, Nocturnal Animals, Paterson, Julieta and Toni Erdmann couldn't have been released weeks or months earlier in the year.

I agree. Nocturnal Animals ,A Monster Calls, Edge of Seventeen specifically should have been released in September/October and maybe could have found an audience with their genre skewing titles; and capitalized of the huge buzz they had coming off fall festivals.

The A Monster Calls trailer looked super interesting to me and I knew nothing about it. Beyond stupid to release a movie like that for Xmas though where it will get buried. Could have seen that being a breakout hit with a quieter month release and a strong marketing push.

The Oscars are never about who deserves to win the Oscars are about who campaigns the most to win. Why do you think the weinsteins have about 6 million Oscar nominations and about 300,000 wins?

The Oscars are contrived and manipulated bullshit just like every other entertainment industry award show. It's arguably worse in the music industry though, Beyonce now has as many Grammys as Madonna and Michael Jackson combined.

IMO, Moana is not showing strong legs. Fantastic Beasts is, but Moana is dropping fast. Do you think it will reach $200m DOM?

I will throw one small caveat in there. If the Oscars feel that someone is due, in other words they've been nominated 5 or 6 times and should have won by now, then chances are they will throw him a bone and finally give him a win. Amy Adams is due just like Leonardo DiCaprio was due last year.

Adams won't win for Arrival unless Stone and Portman are nowhere near as good as people are claiming. Yes being "due" helps but you also have to have a really strong performance and/or no competition that year. Adam's Arrival performance will probably be the weakest of her noms and she has competition.

It's only getting a qualifying release on December 23, January 13 is its wide opening date.

Manchester shouldn't wait until the 16th. Strike while the iron is hot and go 800+ theaters next weekend.

My guess is that they want to take advantage of Golden Globe noms(Dec 12) /SAG noms(Dec 14)  before going to a nationwide release.

Surprisingly, Miss SLoane is getting 1600 theaters next weekend, that film as no buzz whatsoever.

Wait what? Are you familiar with post-thanksgiving drops, or really just trolling?

Not trolling, so maybe I just don't know about post-TG drops?

What I do know is that many were predicting that Moana would beat Fantastic Beasts DOM while I said FB would beat it pretty big, and that looks more likely now. Moana isn't going to be a Frozen, more like ... I don't know, Tangled? Wreck it Ralph? Maybe a stretch to Big Hero 6? Maybe hits $200m DOM? I don't see why anyone thinks that is a sure thing.
