Does anyone else get the feeling CHiPs could be a monster bomb? My audience at Kong laughed at the trailer, but that weekend is fucking stacked.

A 25M budget doesn't give it much chance to be a monster bomb. Needed at least 3 times that budget.

As someone who normally vouches for R-Rated buddy comedies such as Ted, Neighbors, and both Jump Street, CHiPs looks like a flop and so cringe induced.

They think CHiPs can be a franchise according to interviews

If the curse is Hollywood having no idea how to properly adapt them, then yes.

This. Ghost in The Shell wasn't a generic revenge plot movie. Tbh the kind of thing Ghost in The Shell was, was entirely wrong for American general audiences. It's a cerebral and philosophical story that happens to have action in it. None of that is really what American audiences enjoy.

There's a video game movie curse. There's no denying it.

Is there a live action anime adaptation curse too?

Are there many examples of live action anime films? At least ones that got wide global releases.

The Last Airbender lost money, sure, but if you ignore the budget, the numbers it grossed were not awful.

GitS is going to test ScarJo's star power like Passengers tested JLaw and Chris Patt's.

I'm pretty sure Lucy already did that. And it worked significantly better than Passengers.

I've seen the trailers and adverts for Ghost in the Shell hundreds of times and still have no idea what on earth it's about. imo paramount has done a poor job of conveying the point of the film. It's OK to have complex/convoluted plots but you have to find a way to sell them, which I think they've completely failed at other than showing Scarlett Johansson pretending to be Asian.
