Lol @ Please don't post pokemon porn.

At some point, we really should consider banning gifs in the big weekend threads (at least until Sunday).  We all know its all "thanks bait", hell I've been guilty of it a million times, but at some point it all just starts becoming spam.  Instead of talking about boxoffice, everyone's racing to imgur or tumbler to post a gif replying to another gif and so on.

Yeah, I'm getting old. Not as old as baumer or tele, but old enough.

Come on!!! Youth is a mindset, not a physical age :chaplin:

The worst thing for Disney would be to buy or create other studios, with so many movies that would be too much. Disney seriouslmy should invest in videogames to create a videogames giant, with all these franchises and this treasury they could be very successful. Diversifying is key and that would give them even more money, they could easily top Ubi Soft, EA and Activision. They don't have to create consoles because it's costly, jsut developing videogames on all supports. Disney has so much potential in that sector, it's raging.

They've been failing so hard in that sector. Remember Epic Mickey? Also, the Disney Infinity. They tried. But of all Disney divisions, the video game branch is the one consistently in the negative.

Its also difficult because there are no humans in this story. TJB had Mowgli but the rest of the movie was basically animation. TLK remake would then be 100% animation i cant imagine Disney shooting that in real locations. BatB broke out partially because of Emma Watson and the classic love story in the movie. I dont know a Lion King remake just seems like such bad idea for me and i dont mind the other live action disney remakes (except Alice. Screw that Movie :P)

The Lion King will probably be one of the few "live-action" (well photoreal-CGI) movies out there that will be safe from the "if there are no humans, why would anyone want to see it" idea.

Not ambitious enough, particularly when you have such gold. They need to invest big, even if that means losing consequential amounts of money for 2 years or so, the return on investments can be huge after that. Disney Infinity was a success by the way but they messed up after that.

The Lion King is THE animated movie, the definition of it.

I can't count how many time I've watched TLK or Circle of Life on TV.

If Disney does it right, I wouldn't surprise new TLK clears $2B WW

Yes, Emma Watson. But I don't think people realize how good BATB is. In my opinion it's a superior film to lion king. It was nominated for a best picture back in the day; lion king doesn't have that. The "it's a girl" stigma is what makes lion king bigger than BATB. Like I was saying, both have fantastic musicals. Beauty and the beast kicked off Disney broadway musicals and paved the way for Lion King the musical. And Lion King has taken over as the Disney broadway musical.

Touching beauty and and the beast was a risk! And they did it and succeeded. Lion king is definitely gonna be made; less risk than beauty and the beast. And it's gonna be big because it won't be a "girl" movie.

One of the best things they could do is to use several of the musical numbers used in the Broadway production to make it different.

The music is one of big reason why BatB is killing it right now, everybody remembers those tunes.

Lion King had  obviously everything going for it but the music was a big part of its historic success so yeah, the success of the New Lion King will depend a lot, amongst other things, on how they handle the musical aspect.

Wow, since "Alice" Broke out 7 years ago this Disney Live Action thing has been going pretty strong.   Yes "Alice 2" didn't perform well but "Cinderella, Oz, Maleficent and Jungle Book" all did very solid business.  "Beauty and the Beast" was a Classic growing up so obviously the demand was there but that Saturday hold is very solid.   Overall this looks like a "Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Lion King" Live Action could all do very well.

I think the real turning point was Maleficent. Pretty much everyone tried immediately to recapture the crazy success of Alice with alt takes on famous fairy tales without much success. Oz and Snowhite made money but only just enough to cover their huge budgets while Jack the Giant Slayer bombed horribly. Maleficent was also an alt take to the fairytale but it draw every paralell to the animated classic it could find and broke out. Then Disney went straight remaking its animation catalogue and never looked back.

Yes i do believe that TLK will be the biggest of them all. It'svthe one Disney animated movie that gets both men and women equally excited. The only problem with it is that it won't be really live action.

Looks like the sellouts from BATB helped other films get a Sat boost - making up a bit for otherwise crushing them

The multiplex we saw it at yesterday was so busy that the cars had spilled into the parking lot of the restaurant next door and people walked over from there. Wasn't even that crazy when The Force Awakens opened.

I'm willing to guarantee you right now Disney is talking to both Guy Ritchie (Aladdin) and Jon Favreau (Lion King) and mandating that all the songs be included.
