Making 117 milloin (which would be 250m adjusted) from a 15m opening (which would be 32m adjusted). And it made a whopping 232m overseas for a 352m worldwide total. This movie was definitely a commercial product. It had Paul Verhoeven directing who was fresh off Total Recall and starred Michael Douglas who was known for Fatal Attraction. It also had a 49m budget which was pretty high at the time for a movie like this. I believe it got a lot of controversy from gay/lesbian activists due to the villainess being a lesbian.
