The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

Its now only a 3% difference between Black Panther and A Wrinkle in Time on movietickets.com. not sure if a wrinkle in time will take the top spot before the end of the night but this is definitely very encouraging

How tomorrow looks at my theater:

7:05: 3/78

9:55: 0/78

Death Wish:

10:45: 5/78

1:30: 2/78

4:30: 4/78

7:20: 0/78

10:15: 0/78

Game Night:

11:45: 0/60

2:15: 0/60

4:40: 0/60

7:05: 10/60

10:05: 0/69

Peter Rabbit:

11:00: 0/69

2:10: 0/78

4:35: 0/78

7:05: 6/78

9:30: 0/78

Gringo:

10:10: 5/67

12:50: 0/67

3:30: 0/67

6:10: 0/67

9:00: 0/67

Hurricane Heist:

11:15: 0/63

1:45: 3/63

4:15: 0/63

6:50: 2/63

9:25: 0/63

Strangers:

10:05: 0/78

12:20: 0/78

2:35: 0/78

4:55: 0/78

7:15: 0/78

9:35: 4/78

Jumanji:

1:25: 2/69

4:10: 0/69

Wrinkle in Time: 121/946 (101 2D/20 3D)

Black Panther: 23/957 (all 2D)

Red Sparrow: 21/390

Death Wish: 11/390

Game Night: 10/309

Peter Rabbit: 6/381

Gringo: 5/335

Hurricane Heist: 5/315

Strangers: 4/468

Jumanji: 2/138

Wrinkle in Time comps:

20% of Black Panther (40.4M)

85% of Coco (42.9M)

120% of Wonder (33M)

These are more encouraging comps, but the fact that almost 60% of sales are coming from nighttime shows is a little eyebrow raising. There's evidence that suggests it could hit 40M and go sub-30M; this is too confusing:kitschjob:

Strangers:

10% of Happy Death Day (2.6M)

15% of Jigsaw (2.5M)

15% of Insidious (4.4M)

40% of Flatliners (2.6M)

40% of Winchester (3.7M)

45% of Annihilation (5M)

My suspicions from previews are basically being confirmed: this shit is going to be frontloaded as FUCK.

Gringo:

10% of Daddy's Home 2 (3M)

20% of American Made (3.4M)

30% of Downsizing (1.5M)

30% of Game Night (5.1M)

40% of Suburbicon (1.1M)

Yeah, tracking isn't bullshitting us on this one. I'd throw out that Game Night comp in this situation given how younger skewing it is at my theater.

Hurricane Heist:

10% of Hostiles (1.1M)

15% of The Commuter (2.1M)

40% of Geostorm (5.5M)

50% of Flatliners (3.3M)

80% of Friend Request (1.6M)

This MUST go under Friend Request :hahaha:

Pretty fantastic expansion for SoW given all the new releases this weekend. Hope it hits 70m.

It hits DVD next week so that's unlikely. Should reach close to $65M by the time it closes up shop, although it's already very profitable against its budget.

TCs for next week:

Love, Simon: 2,400 (down from the initial 2,700 last week)

7 Days in Entebbe: 800

Seems like Fox is going the WOM building route. They're having sneak previews nationwide on Saturday.

7 Days in Entebee is gonna flop hard. Poor Rosamund Pike.

At best, it'll get 100 extra theaters the following week; there's too many wide releases on the 23rd.

What a shameless plug. Berlanti should be working for Disney with those skills.

Well, here's another $100,000 for WIT box office.  Seeing various fundraises on Twitter to get kids to it.   https://blavity.com/amp/oprah-matches-teens-50k-fundraiser-for-girls-to-see-a-wrinkle-in-time-blesses-her-with-the-best-advice?__twitter_impression=true

Fantastic. Love how Disney has did this with  Black Panther and this film. That's What I Call community support.
