The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

First 3 days of Star Wars Clone Wars (2008) looked like...

6.2 + 5.0 + 3.4 = 14.6

it was released August 15th, and since this did not completely implode after opening day, perhaps Teen Titans will not be too frontloaded either after its first two great preview showings.

Final sales tonight:

Mission Impossible:

7:00: 88/124

8:30: 26/67

Total 114/191

Teen Titans:

4:00: 13/78

6:30: 24/78

9:00: 13/78

Total: 50/234

MI comps:

42% of Ant-Man and the Wasp (31.8M)

115% of The Equalizer 2 (41.4M) (167%/60.1M with the 4 PM show removed)

135% of Rampage (48.3M)

135% of Dunkirk (68.2M)

140% of Blade Runner 2049 (45.9M)

140% of Kingsman 2 (54.6M)

285% of American Made (47.9M)

440% of The Commuter (60.3M)

455% of Death Wish (59.2M)

Now is the time to temper your expectations if you think this is opening to 65-70M. Considering this week's tracking is 50-57M, 60M definitely isn't a lock by any stretch of the imagination.

Teen Titans is running at 45% of Hotel Transylvania 3 (19.8M) and 16% of Incredibles 2 (29.2M). These are really fucking good numbers, especially when the late show is doing a bit of heavy lifting.

How does MI6 compares to Rogue Nation?

only caught 9 of these 12 theaters for the second showing 6-7pm from 4pm.

4pm

9 venues - 372 reserved seats ~ still 41 avg.

6-7pm

9 venues - 393 reserved seats ~ 44 avg.

Using a matinee pricing that is the average of the $8.00 I did above in the quoted, and the $9.16 regular,

= $8.58

(2,500)(44)($8.58) = $943,800. in round #2, +15% which the bump in prices and attendance.

they all have a next showing and some of them have twilights too

Teen Titans update,

Got 8 showings so far in the third round.

324 seats in 8 theaters, down from ~ 41 avg 9pm

393 seats in 9 theaters, round two ~ 44 avg 630pm

488 seats in 12 theaters, round one ~ 41 avg 4pm

This would give,

4pm shows, $8 avg, 41 avg = $820,000

630pm shows, $8.58, 44 avg = $943,800

900pm shows, $9.16, 41 avg = $939,900

when you add these 3 up, you get 2.7 million which would be up 0.1 over Hotel T3.

Lego Batman Movie got 2.2 millio

still some more to come, but I think in a world of all things fair and balanced,

my final verdict for the total Thursday preview number on Teen Titans would have to be

$819,999 or less.

I do not see any other way around that one.

nothing on the twilight showings of Teen Titans, around 0-10 purchases, maybe 2 or 3 sets of people

that makes,

4pm shows ~ 41 avg

630pm shows ~ 44 avg

9pm shows ~ 41 avg

10:30+ shows ~ 10 avg (unofficial)

so about 40 avg cumulative for the day.

MI 5: Rogue Nation - 4m previews/ 2800 theaters from 8pm/ 13.9x/ $55.5m

Equalizer 2 - 3.10m previews / 2934  theaters From 4pm / 11.6x /   $36m

JP:FK: $15.3m previews/ 9.7x / $148m

Massive jump for MI6 on Wed.  I'm not sure what to compare it too.  Not the CBM movies or Solo because it didn't have big pre-sales before hand.

We also can't compare which sales for what day since that ap wasn't updating on Monday and ha;f or Tues either

JW:FK or Equalizer 2?    JW:FK most likely though had a larger family walk up crowd while EQ2 though rated R probably skews closer to MI6's fan base in age

Comparing just Wed numbers would give MI6

$8.9m previews compared to JW:HK

$6.92m compared to EQ2 - though that was skewed higher with 4pm previews-  so maybe closer to $6m for MI6?

Should have kept my w/e prediction in the $70m+ range.  I need to stop listening to Deadline's whisper numbers.

Teen Titans almost at 1.5 HT3 on movietickets.com online pre-seller top 5

1 - M:I6 - 39.8%

2 - Mamma - 13.3%

3 - Teen - 9.1%

4 - HT3 - 6.5%

5 - EQ2 - 5.8%

HT3 and EQ2 should be looking at 12-15 for the weekend.

This small visual data sample (that could be corrupted) indicates that Teen Titans might be crawling up a little more than the low teens it is forecasted to make from Friday matinees.  O/U 15 right now would be my guess.

Teen Titans, Hotel Tran 3, and Equalizer 2 all are neck and neck on movietickets.com sales this morning

Teen Titans almost had 1.5x HT3 last afternoon.

Assuming they are selling the same today,

Teen Titans is in 80% of the venues that Hotel 3 is at and might get then 0.8 of HT3's Saturday #.  HT3 should increase 40% today.

solid for Pooh. Any comparison?

p.s. feeling not less than Scyscraper opening for "The Meg"

I think Transylvania is the best on the list - it's live action with some drama but still more of a family film.

I don't have Sunday comps for that but as of the last update it was near 750 -  should finish around 1200-1500 for Monday
